The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, warned today about the recklessness on the roads and the tragic effects that these behaviors have in the act of commemoration of the World Day in memory of the victims of traffic accidents. Pedro Blanco remarked that “security on our roads and streets is one of the pillars that supports citizen security and I can say that it is one of the tasks that this Government affronts with more responsibility”, while pointing out some of the figures that this task left in Galicia this year, highlighting the constant work of the Traffic staff and the Civil Guard on the roads of the Community.
Thus, he recalled that Traffic has already developed in Galicia since January 17 special surveillance campaigns to which will add four more before the end of the year. Along with them, the more than 26,600 alcohol controls in which 645,000 alcolemia tests and 7,200 drug tests were carried out; and the almost 10,000 speed controls.
The delegate warned about typologies of sanctions that reveal inadmissible behaviors at the wheel. Thus, he drew attention to the 11,734 complaints of alcohol consumption and 5,227 complaints of drug consumption while driving. Along with them, the 7,030 people reported for not using the security belt, the 5,000 complaints for using mobile devices, and the 110,700 complaints for exceeding the allowed speed.

He pointed out the duty owed to the 71 victims registered in traffic accidents in Galicia so far this year, amounting to 981 in the last ten years: “We have a responsibility to the victims.
