The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, participated today in the General Air Accident Simulation that is held every two years at the Alvedro Airport of A Coruña in compliance with the Airport Emergency Plan and following the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The development of the exercise consisted in the simulation of an aircraft accident minutes before the landing, in which the aircraft suffers a failure of unknown origin that prevents the proper functioning of the landing gear, causing the ship to leave the runway and burn causing serious structural damage.
This exercise aims to improve the coordination of the material and human resources belonging to the organizations and units involved in the treatment of a real aeronautical emergency, as well as to test the activation of the PLATERGA plan and other resources of the airport to give a quick and effective response to an emergency situation.
In this case, the simulation required the activation of level 2 of the Territorial Emergency Plan of Galicia (PLATERGA), an instrument developed by the Xunta de Galicia that comprises rules and procedures of action that constitute the system and device of response of the public administrations to any extraordinary emergency situation in the territory of Galicia. Specifically, level 2 is reached when the seriousness of the emergency forces the displacement of the means that are available at any point in the community.
Thus, the simulation also counted on the simulation of passengers and crew injured, which totaled 8, and 4 alleged deaths in the accident; which forced to simulate the activation of the wounded rooms, both light and unscathed, and the family room available at the airport itself.
Both internal means of the airport were deployed, such as the Coordination Office of the PMP Airport, the Civil Guard of the airport or the National Police; and external: Urgencies of Galicia, Red Cross, and the Galician Emergency Agency, among others. The active participation of the Institute of Legal Medicine of Galicia (IMELGA) was also sought.
At the end of the performance, the participants of the simulation met to analyze the development of the exercise and study the different aspects to be improved to ensure an optimal response in case of real emergency.
In the simulation, the subdelegate was accompanied by the General Director of Emergencies and Interior of the Xunta de Galicia, Santiago Villanueva.
