The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, insisted this morning on the importance of coordination between administrations, justice and security forces to make effective the measures of protection of the victims of gender violence. It did so at the inauguration of the fifth Training Day for Security Forces and Corps, organized by the Government Delegation within the program of events of the 25N, an international day against this vice.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the normative and technoloxic advances and the increase in funds made in recent years by the Government of Pedro Sánchez thanks to the State Pact against Gender Violence. Precisely this year’s sessions focus most of the reports on the legal aspects related to the use of telematic control devices.
The delegate recalled that 230 women live today in Galicia with a device of this type to which are added 700 others that have a telephone attention and 24 hour location through the service “Atenpro”. In the words of Pedro Blanco, these protective measures “are fundamental tools in the battle we are fighting against gender violence, so it is very important that each person involved knows these weapons well and knows how to use them”.
The delegate warned at the moment in Galicia there are 4,700 active cases in the Viogen system, “4,700 women who cannot live quietly, who are afraid and who see their lives threatened” and added that “our responsibility and our task is to properly manage this set of elements to give them security and protection.” He also advanced that more and more municipalities are joining this system through the local police force, being today 50 those who formalized this accession.
More resources
Pedro Blanco detailed in his speech the evolution of the measures and funds linked to the State Pact against Gender Violence, “proving to be an effective and necessary instrument.” Thus, it grew in funding, since “from 2018 we transferred to the Xunta and the municipalities of Galicia 70 million euros to promote initiatives and projects both for prevention and treatment of cases of male violence”.
Regarding the regulations, the delegate stopped in the last measure approved by the Government, which allows to warn a victim if his aggressor has a history of gender violence. “A far-reaching measure, since in Galicia alone 1,268 men are persistent aggressors”.
The government delegate had words for the personnel of the Security Corps and Forces to whom he recognized his professionalism and greater specialization in this matter.
