The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, approached this morning to the Municipal Library of Santa Comba to deliver “Mavi, the travelling suitcase”, which contains different books with feminist and equality themes.
This project, which began in the province of A Coruña last year, continues its journey for equality by the municipalities of the province that request it.
The objective of this suitcase, which will remain in Santa Comba for up to three months, is to promote reflection, awareness and awareness among the neighborhood around gender violence.
With this initiative that today reached the Library of Santa Comba, it is intended that the citizens of the municipality can have the opportunity to access the different readings on feminism, empowerment and self-esteem. At the same time, it aims to promote critical thinking in the face of stereotypes and gender roles that are socially perpetuated and promote gender violence.
The traveller’s suitcase contains 14 titles written by women, including “Not to me: an autobiography with a gender perspective” by Laura Freixas, “Feminism for beginners” by Nuria Varela Santolaya and books aimed at children such as “Violeta & CO change the world” by Raquel Díaz Reguera or “Rosa Caramelo” by Adela Turin. It also incorporated children’s literature books for children, as well as a newspaper in which readers who wish to do so can reflect their experience and thus contribute to enriching this initiative that aims to be dynamic and improve their journey.
The travelling suitcase against gender violence began its journey in the town hall of Vimianzo and continued until Cedeira, from where it arrived at the town hall of Mañón. In these municipalities, MAVI also collaborated with children’s schools as well as primary and secondary schools in the municipalities with the aim of bringing reflections on feminism and gender roles closer to young people. In addition, the travelling suitcase visited the Carmela Arias Díaz de Rábago Social Insertion Center in A Coruña.
Currently there are two other suitcases that are traveling through the province, one is in Melide and the other in Cee. This suitcase will reach municipal libraries and libraries of schools, foster homes or associations that are victims of gender violence.
The subdelegate of the Government wanted to highlight the municipal nature of this initiative given the fundamental role played by the municipalities so that this type of campaign reaches the majority of the population and especially the population of the more rural areas that have more difficulty in accessing materials of this nature.
