The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, has moved today to Miño to supervise, together with the mayor, Manuel Vázquez Faraldo, the beginning of the works of recovery of the dunar space and the marshes of the Playa Grande, in which the Government, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition, invests 1,720,506.96 euros.
The deputy delegate pointed out that the action is of vital importance for the city of Miño and “responds to the requests of the Concello and the mayor himself with the aim of revaluing such an emblematic beach”. He added that the goal is “to make the use of citizens and tourists compatible with environmental protection.”
María Rivas, who has also been accompanied on her visit to Miño by the head of the acting Coastal Demarcation, Carlos Gil, has visited the area of the dunes where invasive plants and allochthonous species will be removed. The regeneration works also cover the installation of protective measures delimiting the protected space with wood and rope, in order to be consistent with the environment.
The recovery of the area of the marshes, occupied for years by a football field, is another of the actions, which will be carried out in this regeneration, always with all the necessary precautions to preserve the shellfish banks.
The rehabilitation works of the Grande beach also include the replacement of the wooden walkway by another of a material more in accordance with the environment and easier to maintain.
The subdelegate recalled that on the part of the Government the priority and concern has always been “to protect this natural space and recover that area from the marshes to improve the quality of life of the residents of the municipality”. He has also insisted that both the regeneration and protection of this beach is an old demand of Miño, since this sandy beach, in addition to the great natural value that it treasures, is one of the main tourist assets of the municipality. Regarding the deadlines, the subdelegate reported that the deadline for the execution of the works is 8 months.
María Rivas also wanted to point out that the regeneration works have an important component of circular economy, since all the wood that is removed from the walkways will be used in different projects that will be developed in the future by the City of Miño.
