The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, received today the Theater Group “Noite Bohemia” of the IES Institute Ramón Méndez Pidal of A Coruña, which comes from obtaining two national awards of Classic Greek Theater of the Ministry of Education in the sixteenth edition of the contest, which was held in the Roman theater of Mérida on October 6.
The assistant delegate sent her congratulations to the members of the company for achieving the First Prizes in the two categories in which they were presented, namely, the Greek Tragedy Category with its representation of the work “Twins” of Plauto and the Latin Comedy Category with its version of “Medea” of Euripides.
María Rivas wanted to highlight the Government’s commitment to culture, which is reflected in the celebration of various competitions that aim to highlight the value of national culture, such as the María Moliner Prizes for Reading Animation, which this year recognized the work of five libraries in the province of A Coruña for their work in the dynamization of reading with activities for all ages.
The National Competition for Classical Greek Theatre, organised by the Ministry of Culture, is aimed at theatre groups with ESO students from public and private schools and, since its launch in 2005, aims to stimulate and recognise the efforts of theatre companies to disseminate the reading and theatrical representation of classical Greek works, the values of the classical world and their relevance in today’s world.
Theatrical groups can present their proposals in two modalities, Modality A, aimed at the assembly and representation of theatrical works of the classical tradition, with the categories of Greek and Latin tragedy or Greek comedy and Latin comedy. Modality B focuses on the promotion of classical culture and theatre through the production of short, original or adapted performances, fables, dramatic, mythological or historical texts.
In addition, the Government grants financial support to the first and second posts, which are financed by the Ministry of Culture.
Thus, in Modality A1 (Greek/Latin tragedy or Greek comedy) the prize amounts to 8,000 euros and 3,000 euros for the second place, while in Modality A2 (Latin comedy) they receive 6,000 and 2,000 euros respectively. Finally, the winners of Modality B receive 4,000 euros and the second place 1,000.
