The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has reiterated today that Galicia is a safe territory after confirming a new decrease in crime rates in combination with the best rate of police effectiveness in the last nine years. Pedro Blanco advanced these figures in the central act of the National Police Day, which organized today in A Coruña the Superior Police Headquarters of Galicia on the occasion of this festivity. In his speech, the delegate congratulated the men and women of the Police destined in Galicia for these results, which today was made public by the Ministry of the Interior in the context of the Crime Balance corresponding to the third quarter of this year.
“Galicia is today the third safest community in Spain and is among the safest places in Europe,” said the delegate, who added that the crime rate added in September the third consecutive decrease in the quarterly statistics of the Ministry of the Interior.
At the same time, Pedro Blanco meant that the rate of police effectiveness, which is identified with the number of prison violations clarified, reached in the last quarter to the best figure of the last nine years. Both elements “combine to make a Galicia more prosperous and more attractive to live, to visit and to invest”, he insisted.
The delegate acknowledged that these results show the high degree of commitment and effort of all the men and women policemen assigned in Galicia. The second, aimed at eradicating all behaviors that arise from machismo and inequality. In this idea, he lamented that “this year, 49 women were killed for male violence in this country. We continue to witness unacceptable sexist attitudes in the public space and we cannot consent to them.”
Number of troops
Pedro Blanco recalled that Galicia comes from reaching the highest number of police forces of the last decade “as a result of a double effort: budgetary and training, with 15,000 public employment places offered in these years, to reverse an inherited situation”. Currently, about 3,400 male and female police officers serve in Galician police stations.
He thanked the Minister of the Interior for the contribution of the National Police to the fact that the ministerial meetings of the Spanish Presidency of the EU held in Galicia had left a very positive imprint between assistants and public opinion.
Finally, the government delegate also had words to advance the next commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of the National Police, which will take place in January 2024 of which he said that it will be “an excellent opportunity for citizens to know your work and value the contribution you make to our society.”

The central event of Police Day was held in the police complex of Lonzas, in A Coruña. It was attended by the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, the Mayor of A Coruña, the General of the Maneuver Support Command, the First Vice-President of the Xunta, the President of the Superior Court of Xustiza of Galicia, the Chief General of the Civil Guard and the General Commander of the Navy Protection Force. During this celebration, the Superior Police Headquarters gave 54 Police Merit Crossings to police and people outside the institution and paid tribute to the agents who acceded to retirement status during the last year.
