The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, presided today at the events of Merced Day, patron of penitentiary institutions, at the Carmela Arias and Díaz de Rábago Social Insertion Center.
The subdelegate thanked the intense work and effort of the professionals involved in the reeducation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society of the internal population “not only do you work to reincorporate with all the guarantees and rights the interns and the interns into society, you also fight so that they can rebuild their own dignity”
María Rivas pointed out that precisely these policies of reintegration and integration make the penitentiary system of the country a world reference.
The deputy delegate stressed the importance of figures such as Concepción Arenal and Victoria Kent, two women defenders of social reintegration and pioneers in advances and improvements in the prison environment. María Rivas recalled that “it was two women who promoted a change in the intervention model of inmates and inmates by adopting preventive and reintegrative measures, with the involvement and responsibility of society”.
María Rivas assured that the Government continues to move forward to transform the current prison model into a “more progressive and integrative one, which bets on second opportunities, with the development of policies that promote and facilitate the reintegration of inmates and inmates into society.” He added that “it is our obligation not only as a government but also as a society to re-educate, rehabilitate, integrate and recover them.”
On the occasion of the celebration of Merced Day, the subdelegate again wanted to convey her congratulations on the professional, personal and moral commitment of all workers, as well as to the director of the center, Carla García, for making it possible for the center to be a reference in reeducation and reintegration.
The subdelegate ended her speech by highlighting the work of the Barrié Foundation and of which she was its president, Carmela Arias and Díaz de Rábago, who since 1971 contribute and support the reintegration and training programs of inmates developed in Galician penitentiaries.
In today’s event, the bronze medals were also awarded to the Penitentiary Merit to the Secretary of ASEDUC “Socio-educational Association for Education”, Octavio Susacasa, for his involvement with the center; to Pilar Rebollo, Team Leader of the National Police and to Adela Fernández, Special Official of Penitentiary Institutions of the CIS. There was also an honorable mention to Francisco Javier González Rodríguez, for his 25 years of professional career.
There was also a special recognition for the three CIS people who retired this year: Francisco Javier Alonso, Enrique Ramos and Abelardo Domínguez.
The event was also attended by the director of the Barrié Foundation, Carmen Arias, the magistrate judge for prison surveillance, Javier Sanclaudio and the deputy Obdulia Tabodela.
