The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presided today over the events organized on the occasion of the celebration of Merced Day, patron of the Penitentiary Institutions, in which recognition was given to 35 workers of the province. The subdelegate stressed that the centers “are fortunate to have a staff with a vocation and commitment to the very important work they are doing in our society.”
In the event, which was attended by the mayors of Lugo, Monterroso and Outeiro de Rei, as well as the directors of the Bonxe and Monterroso Penitentiary Centers, the subdelegate highlighted the daily work of prison officials so that inmates “have skills and opportunities to move forward.”
“Your integrating mission with them is admirable, as is the effort you make to instil in them values of respect and effort that is rewarded,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
In addition, the subdelegate took advantage of the act to value collaboration with the State Security Forces and Corps, “which together guarantee the integrity of all Lucenses.”
Decorations
During the celebration, several decorations were given that recognize the work to the staff of the Bonxe and Monterroso Centers and collectives. Specifically, 34 of the 35 total decorations were awarded.
This year, the Silver Medal of Penitentiary Merit was awarded to the administrator of the Penitentiary Center of Monterroso, José Antonio Rodríguez; the administrator of the Penitentiary Center of Bonxe, Miguel Ángel Blanco, and the officials Mónica Rodríguez and José Antonio Hermida, for the conduct maintained on the occasion of the terrorist violence as a member of the staff of the Center of San Sebastián in 2007.
The Bronze Medal of Penitentiary Merit was received by Carlos Carmiña and José Luis Sánchez. This year, the Lugo River Club, the maintenance technician of the CLECE Company, Javier Neira, and the member of the Civil Guard’s Cinoloxic Unit, Luis Hierro, were awarded the Bronze Medal for Prison Social Merit. Likewise, 8 of the 9 honorary mentions were awarded to several officials, including a chief of services, a head of mixed area and a manager. Another recognized merit was the 25 years of service of the workers, surrendering to 9. To conclude the ceremony, some authorities were given the figure of a commemorative menina.
