The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, participated this morning in the signing of the Act of Recognition of the Border Line in the River Miño, together with members of the Spanish Navy and the Portuguese Marinha, as well as representatives of the Galician municipalities and the Portuguese municipal chambers located along this border. This ratification, which takes place every year, complies with Article 15 of the Treaty of Lisbon of 1864, which defines the border between Spain and Portugal and which is 170 years old next year.
Pedro Blanco wanted to highlight the symbolism of the act “because it shows the unity of this Minot region, of the peoples who have shared this space, its resources and its culture for centuries” and stressed that Spain and Portugal are given by hand thanks to the River Miño. The delegate also stressed the meaning of this Recognition Act, as it is an example of the “brotherhood and growing cooperation between our administrations and our peoples.”
The Spanish authorities boarded the facilities of the Naval Command of Tui in the patrol boat “Cabo Fradera”, where they moved to the meeting of the Portuguese patrol boat “Río Minho”. With the two boats anchored in the waters of the River Miño, the acts of border recognition were signed jointly. Specifically, they signed the mayors of A Guarda, O Rosal, Tomiño, Tui, Salvaterra de Miño, As Neves and Arbo on the Spanish side and those of the municipalities of Caminha, Vilanova de Ampolira, Valença and Monçao on the Portuguese side.
