The Government has once again shown its commitment to the industry and business development of Galicia with the agreed expansion of the Reboredo polygon in Monforte de Lemos (Lugo), managed by the state-owned company Tierra Empresarial del Atlántico (SEA), which has given the green light to an operation that will double the current area, with 275,000 square meters more.
The Government delegate, Pedro Blanco; the mayor of Monforte, José Tomé, the manager of SEA, Beatriz Sestayo and the subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, have exposed the agreement adopted at the last Board of Directors of SEA that will allow to provide more industrial land to the region, after the space available in Reboredo has been exhausted this year.
The efforts made by both SEA and Concello have allowed the occupation of the polygon to triple, from 20 to 100% of the land awarded in just three years, in a “before and after”, according to the SEA manager, the result of the new “proactive” stage and direct involvement initiated in the last four years. “Public action only makes sense if it results in job creation, economic development and population settlement,” said Beatriz Sestayo.
The manager of SEA - an entity dependent on the Ministry of Transport through SEPES - has explained that the process for enlargement is already under way, with the approval in the June Council of the modification of the Sectoral Plan for the Management of Business Areas. The initial forecast provides that the works can be tendered within approximately one year.
The current business park, in which companies such as Oviganic, specialized in dairy products or the pharmaceutical company Indukern are based, hosts more than 30 companies that generate about 300 direct jobs, according to figures provided by the business sector.
Beatriz Sestayo has valued the institutional collaboration with the Concello that will make a new project a reality that will contribute to the dynamism of the region, not only in terms of economic and investment, but also of social cohesion and economic diversification.
With the current Government, the state agency SEA has resumed investments in Galicia aimed at generating new opportunities, as reflected not only the future expansion of Reboredo, but also the development of the new Cuntis Estate (Pontevedra) in collaboration with Zona Franca de Vigo or the forecast of expansion of the business park of A Laracha (A Coruña).
SEA has awarded about 500,000 square meters in Galicia since 2019, in operations that have allowed to promote the creation of about 2,000 jobs, according to the figures provided by the different companies.
Government commitment to industrial development
The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has stressed the “firm commitment of the Government to the industrial development of Galicia”, through “sustainability, innovation and digitalization”, as evidenced in a project that will allow to respond to the existing business demand in a Concello that is experiencing an enormous “industrial and tourist boom”, converted into a “neuralgic center of development of Galicia interior”.
Pedro Blanco thanked the efforts and progressive policies of the mayor and the Concello who, despite the difficult economic context resulting from the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, have made it possible to generate a very positive impact on the productive model of the province.
Monforte, he stressed, has “the outstretched hand of the Government to continue growing”, with a project that will continue to promote it at an industrial level and establish the Region as one of the main centres of business and economic dynamism in Galicia.
Industrial Recovery Plan
“The Government of Pedro Sánchez complies with the concellos and their demands” and is a “firm ally of the Galician industrial sector”, as reflected in the more than 1.7 billion euros committed in the European funds of the Recovery Plan for the industrial sector.
In addition, the Government has transferred 4.8 million euros to the Xunta to strengthen connectivity in polygons, logistics centers and areas of business activity, through the Single Plan Industry and Companies. The program includes both the deployment of broadband, as well as the interconnection of the centers or facilities with each other, as well as the reinforcement of connectivity in each of them.
Pedro Blanco has highlighted that the Government has helped more than 25,000 Galician companies and SMEs with an investment of more than 90 million from the Recovery Plan to improve their competitiveness and boost their growth.
“Proactive measures and projects that go from paper to reality,” he said.
The government delegate reiterated his gratitude for the “great work done by SEA and its manager Beatriz Sestayo, to complete the expected expansion of the Reboredo business park”.
The mayor of Monforte, José Tomé, thanked the commitment of the Government and SEA and claimed the “abysmal difference” between the previous situation of the polygon and the current one, with a proven business demand that endorses the future enlargement. The petition, he said, “had a positive response from SEA.”
José Tomé recalled that on August 26, another expansion of the polygon was also reported from the Concello, thanks to the free cession made by the Deputation and that it will allow the increase in another 16 hectares. “If we count both extensions, the O Reboredo polygon will have about 823,000 m2, with a very important future projection.”
The project will turn Monforte, he stressed, into a “pole of development”, with an industrial fabric that will allow to “fix population” and respond to the business demand already established.
