The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed today the Government of Pedro Sánchez’s commitment to the Coruña of the future, which is moving towards a more sustainable, accessible, digital and inclusive city and estimated at around 560 million euros the investments that the Government of Spain is mobilizing to make it a reality.
He said this in front of the mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, during the first institutional visit that he made today to the Pazo de María Pita. In this meeting, in which the delegate was accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, reviewed with the mayor the projects promoted by different ministries in the city, as well as the most imminent joint challenges.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the advances for the city, and the Coruñeses and the Coruñesas, of the strategic projects that the Government of Spain has taken out of the drawer in recent years and that will deepen the transformation that the Government of Inés Rey is also committed to. In this line, he cited the Intermodal Station, the railway connection with the External Port, the regeneration of the Ría del Burgo or the remodeling of Alfonso Molina. On this latest project, which is in the process of being contracted, the delegate said that “it will be resolved in the last quarter of the year, so that this long-awaited action can begin as soon as possible.”
A Coruña, capital of artificial intelligence and technology
Pedro Blanco highlighted the joint work of the Government and the City Council to turn the Coruña into Spanish capital of artificial intelligence and technology. This is reflected in the implementation of the headquarters of the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Agency, in which both administrations are working in accordance with the Statute of the AESIA, approved last August.
Together with the AESIA, the delegate added to this line of work the cooperation in the ICT City, both in its origin, with the free transfer of the land to install this technological pole, and in its endowment. Thus, he recalled that the Government finances the new audiovisual production center that has been contracted by the Diputación de A Coruña in this location.
Recovery Plan
In his speech, the delegate acknowledged the management and initiative of the Municipal Administration of A Coruña on the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan: “A Coruña is one of the Spanish cities that is taking advantage of the different calls and has become an example of what the Government of Spain expects of all the municipalities”, by translating the opportunities offered by this Plan into advances in sustainability, digitalization and equality for the citizens of Coruña.
Proof of this dynamism are the 20 million euros achieved by the City of A Coruña in two calls to promote sustainable mobility and the most recent 6 million euros achieved for the remodeling of the Markets of Monte Alto and Santa Lucía. Pedro Blanco meant that, thanks to this aid, among others, A Coruña is consolidating one of the most modern and extensive bicycle rental systems in Spain.
Extra reinforcement
The meeting served to review the situation of citizen security in the City Council. In this regard, the delegate stressed that the coordination between Delegation and City Council “is bearing fruit”, which is reflected in the fact that between January 1 and August 31 of this year, prison violations committed in A Coruña decreased by 7% with respect to the same period of the previous year. In parallel, the crime clarification rate increased by 1.15%.
On the other hand, with regard to illegal occupation of properties, Pedro Blanco meant the decrease in the last year of 35% of occupation cases with respect to the previous year.
The delegate also wanted to meet with the mayor to meet the demands of the Coruñeses and, therefore, promised to increase police patrols, through additional security reinforcement.
