The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, took advantage of his visit to the city of Betanzos to add value to the more than 400 million euros that the Government of Pedro Sánchez will invest in Galicia in the period 2018-2025 for the rehabilitation of 25,000 homes and the construction of another 1,200 social housing.
In the course of an event with the mayor, María Barral, in which the delegate highlighted the more than 8 million euros invested by the Government in Betanzos, Pedro Blanco indicated that, in terms of housing rehabilitation, the amount in recent years amounts to 2 million euros.
In this regard, he recalled that the Government, through the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, recently signed an agreement to invest 700,000 euros in the town, money that will allow it to operate in 40 homes in its historic center. “We talk about a plan to act in the neighborhood of A Ribeira and the old neighborhoods of A Magdalena and Nuestra Señora dos Remedios, where we already invested 300,000 euros in aid in recent years,” said Blanco.
To these items we must add another million euros from a supramunicipal plan of the roads of Santiago, from which 150 homes from the parishes of Betanzos, Requián and Tiobre benefited. “We talk about a historical investment in rehabilitation in Galicia with which this Government seeks that housing is truly a right for Galicians and Galicians and an opportunity to transform villas and cities,” he added.
Xunta commitment
In this regard, the delegate pointed out that to meet the objective of rehabilitating 25,000 properties and building 1,200 social housing units, the involvement of the municipalities is required, but also the commitment of the Xunta, which manages the majority of the funds transferred by the Government.
“The Xunta must speed up the call for aid and the processes of awarding aid so that the money reaches the individuals and can undertake rehabilitation projects that improve the quality of the homes, prolong their life and improve the image of the neighborhoods, the villas and the municipalities,” said Pedro Blanco.
BETANZOS INVESTMENTS
In the meeting with María Barral, the delegate and the mayor reviewed other ongoing investments of the Government of Spain in Betanzos.
In total, there are more than 8 million euros, which, in addition to the rehabilitation actions, allowed to act in the restoration of the Parque do Pasatempo, to which the Government contributed 1.5 million; the reform of the Market of Supplies, with a similar amount, or the Tourism Sustainability Plans: that of the Casco Vello, with one million euros for the valuation of monuments and creation of themed routes, and that of the Reserva das Mariñas and Terras do Mandeo, which contemplates the cleaning of the estuary or the creation of a network of biosphere interpretation centers, among others.
“They are investments that make it possible to value the heritage and the tourist offer, but also those that contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the neighborhood,” said the delegate, who gave as an example the 2.2 million euros for the replacement of almost all of the luminaires of the city by other LED, more efficient; the 14,500 euros for actions within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence or the Single Broadband Program, which allowed to bring high-speed internet to 236 homes and businesses of the city that still did not have this service.
Historical demands
In view of these figures and these investments, Pedro Blanco stressed that “the Government is complying with Betanzos”. Proof of this, he said, is that it is responding to two historical demands of the neighborhood, such as the construction of a gazebo at the intersection of the Betanzos crossing with Fraga Iribarne Avenue, or the cession of the urban sections of the N-VI, from the border with Coirós to As Ansitias, and the N-651 between A Ribeira and Saavedra Meneses.
“We are facing an historic investment in Betanzos, but also in each and every one of the municipalities of Galicia, because all of them receive the investments of the Government of Pedro Sánchez,” he concluded.
