The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas participated today in the presentation of the campaign of good practices in tourism that will be developed by the City of Santiago and that has the financing of the Government through the Sustainable Tourism Plan endowed with 1M€.
A campaign, which as explained by the subdelegate “fits in with the coordinates and the commitment that the Government of Spain established to consolidate and move towards responsible tourism”.
María Rivas highlighted the Government’s firm commitment to territorial cohesion and the transformation of tourism in Galicia under the umbrella of sustainability with an investment of 172 million euros from 2020 to 2023. “This investment reaches 1 out of every 2 municipalities in Galicia. There is no region in Galicia that does not benefit from the investment of the Government to modernize tourism” recalled Rivas.
In these four years the Government has invested 21.57 M€ in tourism with two sustainability plans, Terras de Compostela with 1.3M€ and the Vía Verde Compostela-Tambre-Tabs with 1.37M€ .
In addition, it also allocates €13.5M to the rehabilitation of the Hostal de los Reis Católica and €3M to interior rehabilitation, change of roof and cleaning of the façade of the Pazo de Raxoi and the rehabilitation of the stone staircase of the Cathedral with an investment of €1.4M.
The Lands of Compostela Tourism Sustainability Plan is part of the National Plan of Oenogastronomical Tourism. This plan aims to improve the tourist market share of Terras de Santiago, through the development of a product with a strong experiential component linked to activities and the agri-food landscape and that mobilizes the territory towards sustainable and competitive management models.
As for the Via Verde Compostela-Tambre-Tabs, the plan seeks to boost the tourist destination of this Via Verde, the longest in Galicia that runs along 26.67 kilometers of the old railway in the province of A Coruña between Oroso and Cerceda.
Within the Heritage Restoration Program in World Heritage Cities, under the Recovery Plan, the Ministry allocates 3 million euros to the interior rehabilitation of the Pazo de Raxoi. While in the rehabilitation program of the BIC the Government reserves 13.5 million euros to the Hostal de los Reis Católica, a performance that began to be executed in the month of April in the area of A Capela Real.
The deputy delegate reiterated the Government’s work in the green transition, digitalization and energy efficiency in favor of a tourism that becomes an engine of socioeconomic growth of the territory, based on quality and responsibility.
“Santiago de Compostela is the epicentre of the tourist assets we have in Galicia, it is a fragile and valuable piece that must be treated with great care and therefore we have a fundamental tool that is sustainability” said the subdelegate.
The subdelegate highlighted the Government’s commitment to consolidate Santiago de Compostela as “a destination committed to environmental conservation, innovative and digitalized, flexible and resilient to new challenges”.
