The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, presided this morning the Xunta Local de Seguridad in Vilagarcía de Arousa, together with the mayor of the town, Alberto Varela. The provincial commissioner of the National Police in Pontevedra, Juan José Díaz, the chief colonel of the Civil Guard in Pontevedra, Simón Venzal, and other officials responsible for Traffic, the Local Police and municipal security also attended. The meeting focused on the summer operation in the city and the Water Festival, which will take place on August 16, and the Naval Combat, which will be held on the 19th of the same month.
The meeting focused on promoting and coordinating all measures aimed at guaranteeing security in the town during the month of August, a time that, as explained by the Subdelegate, “the city receives numerous visitors” and, especially, “in the development of the two main festivities that the municipality hosts this month”.
Maica Larriba reviewed the operation necessary for the good development of these celebrations, maintaining her concern to continue working on the security of the multitudinous summer celebrations. Thus, the actions to be carried out by the State Security Forces involve the implementation of special traffic and operational controls at the access points to the locality, and the activation of alcohol and drug controls that serve as prevention due to the possible lack of responsibility of some drivers. Local police officers and a patrol of the Autonomous Police Unit will also ensure the smooth running of the festive activities. Likewise, a Prevention and Reaction Unit of the National Police of Vigo will travel to the municipality during the days of celebration of these festivities, in which various ambulances and an emergency health team will also be mobilized, which will be located in the Plaza de la Pescadería.
On the other hand, the subdelegate thanked the City Council for the initiative to have a purple caravan during the festivities. It is a point of information, advice and help in any type of aggression or problem suffered by any person.
The caravan will intervene, for example, if a minor shows up to accompany her until an adult passes by to pick her up, if a child is lost, they will guard him until they pick him up, or if a woman is left alone she will have a safe place to be here.
Maica Larriba highlighted the commitment of the mayor, Alberto Varela, in favor of equality and the fight against gender violence by having this lilac point during the celebration of the two festive events and demanded that the attendees “enjoy the festivities with responsibility”.
