Isabel Rodríguez highlights in Sarria the commitment of the Government with the Camino de Santiago with security plans and improvements on the routes
The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, highlighted today in Sarria the commitment of the Government with the Camino de Santiago with security plans and improvements in the Xacobe routes during the inauguration of the III International Day of Police Cooperation Xacobea. The subdelegate highlighted the work carried out by the different Security Forces and Bodies to guarantee a safe Camino, “one of our most international tourist experiences, which year after year brings together hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, and for which we mobilize more than 3,600 troops in Galicia”.
In this way, he said that this summer seven police forces from Europe, South America and Asia are working on coordinating the deployment of troops to ensure the safety of travelers. Thus, he took the opportunity to thank the agents from Italy, Brazil, South Korea, France, Germany and Portugal “for the support they give us to protect travelers, which is a priority for the Government within its commitment to the revitalization of the Xacobeo”.
In her speech, Isabel Rodríguez detailed several of the measures carried out throughout the territory such as the deployment of the Mobile Offices of Attention to the Pilgrim, which, for the third consecutive summer, travels the Camino giving assistance to travelers and demonstrating great effectiveness in the response offered. He also referred to the information campaign aimed at the pilgrims #NoCaminasSola, which will extend to more than 1,600 points located in pilgrimage areas throughout Galicia.
In addition, he insisted that the Ministry of the Interior facilitates the mobile application ALERTCOPS, which offers additional coverage to the entire route of the Camino, allowing the pilgrim who wishes to have services such as 24 hours a day care, as well as calls and alerts located in real time, all in 7 different languages.
On the other hand, he highlighted the effort of the Government of Spain aimed at the numerous actions of conservation and restoration of monuments and places of interest in the different routes such as Pedrafita do Cebreiro, Portomarín, Palas de Rei or Paradela, “with which we will fine-tune and preserve for the future the historical heritage located in the Galician sections of the Camino, which will undoubtedly strengthen the potential of Galicia to attract more visitors.”
Isabel Rodríguez wanted to highlight the successful work carried out by the Security Forces and Corps on the Xacobeas routes, with special mention to the Civil Guard “a reference institution in the rural area, and in a special way on the Camino, facilitating a close and direct relationship with the citizens, with the municipalities, with the municipal services and with the social fabric”.
Finally, the subdelegate recalled the daily and daily service performed by the different groups, associations and NGOs, which thanks to their joint action in the management of the Compostela route manage to meet the needs of pilgrims and protect the values associated with the pilgrimage.
Day focused on the attention to the pilgrim
In the course of the day, the different speakers transmitted to the agents present the different peculiarities of the deployment and method of the work of the Civil Guard, as well as the importance of the Camino de Santiago both in the aspect of the pilgrimage route and in that of its patrimonial value and the importance of the police work to guarantee the perfect harmony between the attention and help to the pilgrim and for the conservation of the Camino itself.
The event was also attended by the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the Lugo Command, the Lieutenant Colonel of the Operations Section of the General Staff, the Mayor of Sarria, territorial delegate in Lugo, the President of the Galician Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, members of the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago Frances and the Director of Universal Accessibility and Innovation of the ONCE Foundation, among others.
