The Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers, promoted by the Government, closes the academic year in Galicia with a record 4,096 activities and talks in 954 educational centers and a 51.5% increase in the number of attendees.
The Autonomous Commission of Follow-up of this Plan took stock this week of the academic year 2022/2023 in Galicia with a meeting that was held in the Government Delegation. The head of the High Educational Inspection Area of the Government Delegation, Manuel Regueiro, highlighted the increase in talks on cybersecurity and prevention of harassment, which were 2,609 of the 4096 talks in total.
This operational programme, implemented in coordination with XUNTA and FEGAMP, has as its most important element the holding of security training activities led by specialized teams of the National Police and the Civil Guard at the request of the centres themselves. Manuel Regueiro highlighted the participation of 125,134 people members of the educational community, 42,344 more than last year. Of these, 115,430 were students, 6,547 teachers and 3,157 parents or guardians.
In addition to cybersecurity and harassment, the main topics taught were gender violence and drug and alcohol consumption. The total number of lectures given was 16% more than the previous course.
Police surveillance
Along with the activities and talks, another important part of this School Coexistence Plan is the task of surveillance in the environment of the educational centers, to prevent, among others, the sale and consumption of drugs. In this course, the National Police and the Civil Guard carried out 14,377 surveillance in 1,228 centers in Galicia and deactivated 12 drug sales points (7 in the province of A Coruña, 4 in Lugo and 1 in Pontevedra).
The heads of Violence against Women Units of Galicia and the four provinces, members of the National Police Force and Civil Guard and Educational Inspection of the Government and the Xunta de Galicia, also participated in the school balance meeting.
Next school year
In the next school year, the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Schools will reinforce the prevention of the risks associated with new digital technologies and combat sexual violence, gender violence and discrimination more effectively. The focus will be on the new ways to exercise violence such as digital environments, social networks and other digital services.
The National Police and Civil Guard will develop continuous training and improvement programmes that will guarantee the necessary qualification to the agents responsible for the implementation of the educational programme.
