The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided over the inauguration of the exhibition of media and material of the Civil Guard on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Service of Deactivation of Explosives and Nuclear, Radiological, Biological and Chemical Defense (SEDEX-NRBQ), held at the Cidade da Cultura in Santiago.
During her speech, María Rivas used the words courage, generosity, heroism and dedication to define the SEDEX and stressed that, since its creation on March 2, 1973, this body has kept intact its commitment to citizenship, to freedom and to the defense and guarantee of rights.
The subdelegate of the Government ironized with the image that is often formed in the imaginary of people through the world of cinema and television and claimed their professionalism and exemplary nature. “There is no red wire or yellow wire to cut here. What there is is a lot of preparation, training, professionalism and not little intuition. Because discipline, training, or instruction are just as important or more important than value. And in that the Civil Guard, the State Security Forces and Corps, are exemplary.”
María Rivas highlighted the great opportunity of this exhibition to “remember and value the evolution, growth and improvement of this group of specialists that is SEDEX”. “As a subdelegate of the Government, I feel an enormous pride for the men and women who are part of the Security Forces and Corps of our country, always willing to provide answers and seek solutions for the sake of security and the protection of citizens.”
The deputy delegate took advantage of her speech to recognize once again the one woman who was the only SEDEX woman in Spain for 11 years, Begoña Sampedro, “for being able to break down barriers and become a reference for many women”. He also acknowledged the historical fact of the recent incorporation of two new women into the body.
The deputy delegate ended the speech by expressing her gratitude both to SEDEX “for being a guarantee of our freedom”, and to their families for their generosity. He also encouraged all citizens to pay a visit to this exhibition.
The exposure
The exhibition of media and material of the Civil Guard will take place from July 12 to 15 in the Event Room of the Fontan Building of the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela.
