Ourense, July 5, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, marks as main challenges of the Summer Traffic Operation the control of alcohol consumption at the wheel and the protection of vulnerable users. The first Traffic Exit Operation started last Friday 30th at 3 pm.
Emilio González shows his concern for this year’s accident data, appeals to the responsibility of drivers and highlights that it is essential to redouble efforts and prudence in these summer dates. Remember that this year’s campaign focuses precisely on awareness of the use of drugs and alcohol at the wheel. Under the slogan “When you kill someone on the road, you kill them every day of your life,” the campaign shows how risky behaviors can make a person’s life no longer theirs and the guilt behind it lurks every day after the traffic accident. According to data from the DGT, the number of drivers with alcohol in the body in fatal traffic accidents increased by 4 points.
Specifically in the province of Ourense, it is expected that between the months of July and August 1,853,000 vehicles will be registered, which represents 13% of all Galicia.
Increased displacement
Emilio González reports that the DGT expects that during this summer 10,972,000 trips will be registered on the roads of Galicia, which represents 15% of the total of Spain. This figure is 2.5% higher than last year (10.7 million) and confirms the upward trend initiated after the pandemic. At the national level, the expected increase is 2%.
Throughout the two months of the campaign, four special operations and specific speed control and alcohol and drug campaigns will be carried out. The first will take place between 10 and 16 July and will focus on speed control. A specific alcohol and drug control campaign will be conducted in August between the 14th and 20th of that month.
Improvements in the road network of Ourense
The subdelegate of the Government highlights the measures approved yesterday in the Council of Ministers by the Ministry of Transport and Mobility in which two contracts were approved for the province of Ourense for an amount of 45.54 million euros for the improvement of 286 km of roads in the province One more symbol of the commitment of the Government to improve the safety and protection of road users.
These contracts mean improvements on the N-525, N-532 and several sections of the A-52.
