Isabel Rodríguez stresses in Meira that the MAVI project is more necessary than ever “when some deny and hide male violence”
The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, insisted today in Meira that “male violence can only be eliminated from the work in common, uniting between administrations and society, to amplify the messages of rejection to the aggressors and support to the victims.” Isabel Rodríguez traveled to the City of Meira on Thursday to receive the MAVI project: the Travelling Suitcase against Gender Violence, an initiative promoted by the Subdelegation of the Government that brings books on different topics related to feminism, equality, empowerment, self-esteem or male violence to neighbors and neighbors of all ages.
“MAVI is a more necessary project than ever, because, unfortunately, we see daily how some deny and socially hide the reality of male violence, with speeches that embrace the inequality suffered by women,” warned Isabel Rodríguez, who asked the institutions for responsibility “to continue developing public policies aimed at transforming our society into a more egalitarian, fair and safe one for women.”
The deputy delegate, together with the mayor of Meira, Antonio de Dios, and the head of the gender violence unit of the Subdelegation, María Luisa Castro, explained in the library of the House of Culture that “with this proposal we want to reach the largest number of people in the province, women, men, boys and girls, because male violence challenges us all and we cannot allow ourselves to go backwards or take a step backwards in this regard.”
As Rodríguez explained, the City of Meira joins those of Viveiro, Sarria, Vilalba and Quiroga, as well as the penitentiary centers of Bonxe and Monterroso, which worked with texts that promote reflection, awareness and awareness on determining issues to achieve a society free of violence, favoring critical thinking in the face of stereotypes and gender roles that perpetuate these violence and inequalities.
In total, there are 3 suitcases that are traveling through the province with this material that will follow their trip in women’s information centers, associations of women victims of gender violence and social services of the municipalities that request the suitcase.
During the event, Isabel Rodríguez thanked the City Council of Meira for its collaboration with this initiative, which will remain three months in the municipality, aimed at raising awareness and awareness of the citizens in equality “so that society as a whole understands that male violence must be eradicated from towns and cities.”
12 books and a travel journal
A suitcase has twelve books with the idea that all women, regardless of age, can be part of the project. In addition, the suitcase contains a travel diary for the participants to share their reflections on the readings and experiences in this subject.
Among the works that guard a suitcase are titles such as “Is there anything more boring than being a pink princess?”, by Raquel Díaz Reguera; “Cinderella wool that I wanted to eat,” by Nunila López and Myriam Cameros; “We should all be feminists”, by Chimamanda Ngozi; “My husband beats the normal”, by Miguel Lorente Acosta; “Tired”, by Nuria Varela; “El libro de la hija”, by Inma López Silva; or “Rosalía Fernández”. In addition, the suitcase contains a travel journal in which people participating in the project can write and share their reflections on the readings.
On the other hand, the municipalities through which you will pass the suitcase can add those books written or starring by the women of the municipality to make visible the talent and stories of the women of the province
