The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, presided today together with the mayor of Ortigueira, Valentín Calvín, the Local Security Board to analyze the devices prepared on the occasion of the next celebration of the 39th International Festival of the Celtic World of Ortigueira, which will concentrate thousands of people between 9 and 16 July. The meeting was attended by representatives of Civil Protection, the organization of the event, the City Council, as well as commanders of the Civil Guard, the Local Police and the Seconded Police.
At the meeting, María Rivas showed the total willingness and collaboration of the subdelegation of the Government and the Security Forces and Bodies with the City Council to, in a coordinated way with the Local Police and the municipal services, establish the necessary security devices so that everything happens with maximum normality and tranquility in the days that the festival lasts.
Approximately 80,000 people are expected to attend. The mayor of Ortigueira detailed to the subdelegate the operation arranged to guarantee security. Civil Protection will have 100 personnel in which, in addition to their own, volunteers and volunteers from Andalusia will participate as in previous years.
As for the Civil Guard, it will also allocate several patrols of both the anti-riot and citizen security units with the support of troops of the A Coruña Command. These days Seprona is already acting in preventive activities and there will also be a permanent presence of the Civil Traffic Guard.
In this regard, the Government’s deputy delegate took the opportunity to reiterate a message of “sentidiño”, especially with regard to vulnerable road users. During the celebration of the festival there will be many walking trips so he remembered the importance of wearing reflective garments and walking with caution. In the same way, it conveyed a message of prudence for drivers on their trips, encouraging the use of the free car parks provided by the organization so that once the vehicle is in the authorized places they can move through the transport provided by the festival.
The device will be joined by the people arranged by the organization itself, Local Police and other forces, such as the Civil Traffic Guard itself, who will coordinate the accesses and exits of Ortigueira. The Local Board also supervised the self-protection plan developed for the festival, which establishes the delimitation of different areas for its control and surveillance, such as rest areas, parking lots, the stage area and food and drink stands.
María Rivas expressed the total willingness of the subdelegation of the Government through the security forces and bodies to contribute to the International Festival of the Celtic World, one more year, taking place within the parameters of security and tranquility in which it has been developing over the last few years.
The subdelegate placed special emphasis on the need to have violet points as happens in other festivals and events of similar characteristics in the province. These points provide the necessary information to know how to act in a case of violence against women, and protection if necessary.
The subdelegate highlighted the work of all the people involved in the Ortigueira festival that, as confirmed by both security forces and bodies and the civil protection coordinator, is an example of good behavior and coexistence between the participants, attendees and the population of Ortigueira.
