Pontevedra, June 28, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, recalled today that “gender violence is, in addition to a serious attack on the integrity and dignity of women who suffer it, a threat to society itself, which we cannot ignore or deny”. For this reason, he appealed to “not take a step backwards in the face of speeches that deny the violence suffered by women” and claimed the importance of the prevention and fight against this violence that is carried out by the Public Administrations.
The Government subdelegate made these statements at the opening of the training day on gender violence and visiting regime organized by the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation in Pontevedra, which was attended by dozens of participants from the professional field of equality and social work.
In her speech, Maica Larriba stressed that “initiatives like today’s are fundamental to continue advancing a more just, free and egalitarian society.” In this line, he recalled that the last five years this Government “worked to protect all women and also their sons and daughters, because we are aware that male violence does not end with women, but that vicarious violence also affects their sons and daughters.”
For the subdelegate to vicarious violence “is probably the cruellest manifestation of violence against women and to confront it, this Government promoted specific measures to attend to and protect minors such as the modification of the Civil Code to regulate the regime of visits of minors in cases of gender violence.”
This was precisely the main issue that was addressed today by the prosecutor responsible for the area of gender violence in the judicial party of Redonda and Vigo, Paula Blasco Muela, who explained in detail the latest legal advances to protect minors in cases of gender violence.
