The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, visited today the provincial delegation of the Red Cross where she held a working meeting with the new provincial president of the entity, Manuel Viqueira; the provincial coordinator Carmen Reigía and the director of the area of women, Laura Cervino. During her visit, she was accompanied by the Head of Unit and Coordination of Gender Violence of the Government Delegation, María Debén.
During the meeting and, among other issues, the Service for the Protection of Victims of Gender Violence, Atenpro, a government program to care for victims of gender violence, through the Red Cross, was followed up.
Thanks to this service, the users receive a mobile with geolocation so that as soon as they feel threatened they can activate the alert and immediately contact a specialized care center. From that moment until the security forces and bodies arrive, if necessary, the specialized personnel accompany the victim by telephone at all times. In addition, the call can only end when the center cuts to communication .
Atenpro provides victims of gender-based violence with immediate attention and distance to problems they may have 24 hours a day, 365 days a year wherever they are.
The goal is for women to feel safe and accompanied for the duration of the process that allows them to put an end to the situation of gender violence, recover and return to normality.
Data
During the visit, the user data from January to May of this year were analyzed. There were 522 women attending and at the end of May, 408 users remained active. Currently in the province there are 67 municipalities adhered to Atenpro-
As for the data of 2022, 672 women were treated and at the end of the year 430 cases remained active.
In which the profile of the users is respected, 21% have minor daughters or daughters; 25% are unemployed; 18% are of foreign origin; 9% had some kind of disability and 2% are over 65 years old.
Atenpro guarantees support, information and advice 24 hours a day and the mobilization of social, health and police resources if necessary. In addition, this service also includes preventive actions with regular monitoring of the situation of women. The Red Cross is coordinated at all times with the local entities in which the victim resides.
The subdelegate of the Government stressed the importance of continuing to work on the protection of victims of male violence and recalled that right now in the province there are more than 2,000 women included in the Vioxen system “which implies more than 2,000 reasons to continue improving and advancing in this fight without allowing us a single step backwards”
María Rivas insisted on moving forward to guarantee the safety and well-being of the victims. “We are not going to bow down and we will continue to improve and work to stop this violence.”
During the meeting, the subdelegate took the opportunity to learn about other programs developed by the Red Cross and aimed at women in which Atenpro users can participate.
