The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today approached the city of Cee to deliver MAVI the travelling suitcase against Gender Violence, a project promoted by the Unit against Violence against Women of the Subdelegation of the Government. The initiative offers several readings related to feminism, equality, empowerment, self-esteem and male violence.
The suitcase and its contents will remain for three months in the public library Francisco Mayán de Cee, where it was received today by the mayor Margarita Lamela.
The objective of this suitcase is to help both women and men to carry out a work of reflection, awareness and awareness around issues of vulnerability such as gender violence.
Maria Rivas explained that the travelling suitcase “is a fundamental project because it is necessary to reflect and raise awareness about the reality we are living”. The subdelegate stressed the need to work in a transversal way at all ages and stressed that the suitcase also includes copies of children’s literature.
For her part, the mayor of Cee Margarita Lamela, stressed the need to “continue planting equality from the smallest and smallest to the elderly so that equality is increasingly consolidated.” The mayor announced that this suitcase will also travel throughout the municipality and will be part of the conciliation program during July and August and will also be present in the educational centers of the city council
With this initiative that today reached the City Council of Cee, it is intended that citizens can have the opportunity to access the different readings on feminism, empowerment and self-esteem and thus promote critical thinking in the face of stereotypes and gender roles that are socially perpetuated and promote gender violence.
The suitcase contains 12 titles with a feminist perspective aimed at audiences of different ages, among which are “A me no me was going to happen: an autobiography with a gender perspective” by Laura Freixas or “Feminism for beginners” by Nuria Varela Santolaya. It also includes a travel diary so that participants can share their thoughts and reflections on them.
During the presentation of the project, María Rivas was accompanied by the mayor of Cee, Margarita Lamela; the Councilor for Social Welfare, Equality and Employment, Emilia Trigo Lojo; and the Cultural Management Technician, Victor Castiñeiras.
A suitcase with a great travel
A travelling suitcase against gender violence began her trip in the City of Vimianzo, passing through Cedeira and Mañón, from there she moved to the City of Cee. Currently there are two other suitcases that are traveling through the province, one is in Melide and the other in the One Hundred of Insertion of the Social of A Coruña. This suitcase will reach municipal libraries and libraries of schools, shelters or associations of victims of gender violence.
The long journey of MAVI comes from the need to bring this information closer to the maximum number of women and girls to highlight the importance of education as a weapon against inequality.
