The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, today valued positively the training offered by the National Police to schoolchildren in the province to prevent them from misuse of the Internet and social networks and thus avoid being victims of cybercrime. “One in five crimes committed in Galicia are telematic, hence the importance of promoting the responsible use of social networks among young people and girls, always protecting their data and privacy”, warned Larriba during the delivery of cards to 9 students of 6th grade of Primary school Juan Sebastián Elcano, who participated in the Cyberexpert@ course taught by the National Police.
The subdelegate congratulated all the boys and girls and highlighted the need to raise awareness among children, digital natives, of the dangers to which they are exposed in the networks and provide them with tools for the good management of their information.
Maica Larriba reported that both the National Police and the Civil Guard are doing a great deal of educational work in this area by offering talks in the educational centers of the province within the framework of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in the Educational Centers and their Environments and under the Cyberexpert@s program.
With the development of this initiative, the National Police tries to sensitize and train minors with the aim of minimizing the risks they may encounter in the daily use of ICT. It is also intended to familiarize minors and their educational and family environment in the use of tools for safer navigation and to train schoolchildren in the responsible use of social networks. In the act of surrender, the subdelegate was accompanied by the provincial commissioner, Juan José Díaz, and two agents of the Citizen Protection Unit.
