The Government’s deputy delegate in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, presided this morning over the minute of silence called at the doors of the Government’s Subdelegation in memory of the last victim of male violence, Ana Vanessa Serén, murdered by her exparella in the town of Oia and who comes from being officially recognized as a victim of gender violence. The event was also attended by the mayor of Pontevedra, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, and the colonel-head of the Civil Guard Command in the province of Pontevedra, Simón Venzal.
The subdelegate announced that Ana Vanessa Serén became the 21st victim of gender violence of this year 2023 throughout the national territory, and the second Galician victim so far this year. Since 2003, when data collection began, 1,205 women have been killed for gender-based violence.
As explained by the deputy delegate, this 44-year-old woman had denounced her exparella, which had been convicted of gender-based violence and had a restraining order and incommunicado detention with the victim. Following the current protocols for cases of gender violence, in this case of medium risk, the victim was being treated by the State Security Forces and Corps, which carried out a total of 56 actions - communication actions such as interviews and calls, etc. - after the conviction of his exparella. Maica Larriba also clarified that there is no evidence of any violation of the removal and incommunicado orders by the murderer and that the firearm used by the murderer does not appear in the records of the Security Forces and Corps neither Spanish nor Portuguese, “analyzed because of the proximity of the locality to the neighboring country.”
Finally, Maica Larriba expressed her shock and total rejection of this murder and regretted that “once again male violence ends the life of a woman.” Larriba also wanted to transfer all her support to family and friends.
The deputy delegate also said that male violence is “a scourge that kills women and that both the Administrations and society are committed to its eradication.” In this sense, he wanted to remind all the women of the province that “they are not alone, since all the women and all the good men are with them.”
