The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, participated today in the closing of the conference “Towards a more sustainable myth”, organized by the Organization of Producers of the Mussel of Galicia (OPMEGA) and held in Vilagarcía.
During her speech, the subdelegate wanted to recall the Government’s commitment to the sustainability of the sector, “because the future of the sector must be linked to innovation and research in order to guarantee the possibility of continuing to produce a protein with high value such as mussel, but with profitability and adapting to the effects of climate change.”
And for this, Maica Larriba recalled, the European Maritime Fund for Fisheries and Aquaculture offers different possibilities, as well as the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government, which has open two lines endowed with eleven million euros for projects that promote blue growth, as well as research, technological development and innovation in fisheries and aquaculture.
“Possibilities that the sector must take advantage of to valorise or produce, improve the conditions of the farms and ensure research and innovation”, said Larriba, “in order to continue guaranteeing its internationalization and allowing to revalidate the figures obtained last year, 24% higher than those of 2021, and which reached 55.6 million euros in exports compared to 44.7 million the previous year”.
Finally, the subdelegate participated in the act of recognition to the Organization of Producers of the Mussel of Galicia (OPMEGA), promoters of the day and of whom she highlighted her work in favor of the profitability, sustainability and efficiency of a “fundamental sector” for the province of Pontevedra.
