The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, reported that the next elections of May 28 will have one of the largest security devices in history for elections. A total of 2,573 troops will work to ensure citizen security and the exercise of rights and freedoms during the voting day, which is almost 12% more than in the previous local elections and the European Parliament held in May 2019.
In the province of Pontevedra, the National Police will deploy a total of 926 officers, while in the Civil Guard it will be 1,178. For its part, the Seconded Police Unit will add 47 personnel and, finally, the agents of the different municipal police bodies will be 432.
The device was coordinated in a meeting chaired by the Government’s deputy delegate in which the commissioner of the National Police Corps of Vigo-Redonda, Ramiro Gómez, and the lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard, Manuel Touceda, also participated.
The deputy delegate stressed that this broad deployment “seeks to guarantee the normality and good development of the electoral day. "The device that makes municipal elections possible is broad and involves the many people, both officials and security forces." For all of this, he conveyed his thanks to all the people "who make it possible for the elections to run normally".
Finally, Maica Larriba stressed that "the wide deployment of police means is going to make this Sunday's elections possible and reflects the idea of the effort made by the whole State so that everything happens normally and that citizens can exercise their right to vote in total security."
