Ourense, May 24, 2023.- The Subdelegation of the Government in Ourense this week finalizes the logistical and security devices so that 255,523 voters can exercise their right to vote in the municipal elections next Sunday. In these elections, Ourense will appoint the 876 seats of councillors in the 92 municipalities and 25 seats of deputies in the provincial deputation.
Emilio González chaired yesterday the meeting to finalize details with all the secretaries of the provincial deputies and thanked the involvement and collaboration of the staff of the Administration to facilitate that the electoral process worked perfectly and thus guarantee the meeting with the ballot boxes.
The Subdelegation is working these days, in collaboration with the local entities of Ourense, to prepare the places where the votes will be held, up to 413 places distributed throughout Ourense, which will house 539 tables and ballot boxes and 413 booths. During the last few weeks, the documentation that will be needed at each of the tables (minutes, instructions, etc.) has been prepared. and all the stationery (envelopes and ballot papers) that must be accessible on Sunday in each of the electoral colleges in the province of Ourense.
At the same time, the Subdelegation participated in two simulations of the data transmission system used by representatives of the Administration to transfer data on the opening and closing of tables, progress of participation and final scrutiny. The last of these simulations was held this Monday throughout Spain.
Of the total electoral census, 252,890 people are resident voters (CER), while 2,633 are foreign voters (CERE). It should be noted that, although the CER registered a decrease of 7,312 people (-2%), the CERE grew in Ourense by 187 people, 7%. In addition, 8,362 citizens of Ourense will exercise the right to vote for the first time in this electoral process.
From the total census, 8,966 people formalized the request to vote by mail, as well as 12 citizens of Ourense who temporarily reside abroad. It should be remembered that voters with permanent residence abroad (CERA) do not have the right to vote in these elections.
The Subdelegation of the Government in Ourense allocates 610 thousand euros to the costs derived from the logistics and security of this electoral process, an amount significantly lower than the previous local elections, since they coincided in date with the elections to the European Parliament.
A significant part of this amount will go to the payment of compensation to more than 3,100 people who work in the preparation and development of the election day. Among them, the 1,617 people who make up electoral boards; the 422 representatives of the administration, responsible for the transmission of data at the tables; and the 1,119 members of the Security Forces who will ensure the normality of the day.
