The deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, held on Tuesday a meeting with the representative of the Community of Galician Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago, Socorro Pernas, to discuss the different projects and proposals that the collective is carrying out to promote and improve the Camino Frances in the province of Lugo. The subdelegate appealed to the collaboration between administrations to join forces and enhance the Xacobea route as it passes through the different Lucian municipalities, “a true economic engine for tourism and local employment.”
During the meeting in the Subdelegation of Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez stressed that local entities are the ones that best know the needs of the thousands of pilgrims who carry out the Camino, “so we must listen to them to continue growing, promoting competitiveness, sustainability and the digitalization of these destinations as axes of transformation of the Camino de Santiago, generating unique experiences for tourists from within and from the country, and betting on a tourist model of quality and safety.”
Likewise, the subdelegate thanked the effort and work of the Community of Galician Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago to make the protagonist the Camino Frances, the oldest and most popular, improving infrastructures, providing basic services to users, making cultural, artistic and natural heritage accessible through new technologies, increasing the tourist offer and contributing to revaluing rural areas.
The community consists of eleven municipalities through which the Camino Frances passes and is seeking to defend, protect and care for it. The localities that are part of the entity are Monterroso, Palas de Rei, Paradela, Pedrafita do Cebreiro, Portomarín, Samos, Sarria, Triacastela, Arzúa, Melide and O Pino.
