The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, today valued positively the training offered by the National Police to schoolchildren in the province to prevent them from misuse of the Internet and social networks and thus avoid being victims of cybercrimes or committing them. “One in five crimes committed in Galicia are telematic, hence the importance of promoting the responsible use of social networks among young people and girls, always protecting their data and privacy,” warned Larriba during the presentation of cards to the twenty or so students of the CEIP of Ponte Sampaio who participated in the Cyberexpert@ course taught by the National Police.
The subdelegate congratulated all the students and highlighted the need to raise awareness among children, digital natives, of the dangers to which they are exposed in the networks and provide them with tools for the good management of their personal information. The event was also attended by the chief inspector of the Pontevedra Command, Montserrat Hernández, and two agents of the Citizen Protection Unit.
The event was the culmination of the implementation of the Cyberexpert@s program developed by the Citizen Protection Unit of the National Police of Pontevedra and through which it is intended to sensitize, raise awareness and train the students of these centers of the existing risks by using the social networks and the resources and mechanisms #existent to protect against these dangers.
The program, with a duration of five teaching hours, is divided into ten didactic units in which, among other issues, it focuses on aspects such as cyberbullying, identity supplantation, grooming, sexting, technoaddictions, rules to maintain the privacy of users, as well as resources and tips for safe navigation.
The Government’s deputy delegate also wanted to acknowledge the “fundamental” work done by the National Police in promoting the safe use of the Internet and in preventing cybercrime.
