Ourense, May 24, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, has traveled to the CPI Antonio Faílde to present the special control and surveillance campaign in school transport, which takes place this week, until Friday, May 26
The subdelegate stressed the importance of the campaign especially in that area near the Antonio Faílde de Cambeo school (COLES - kilometric point 248 of the N 525) since it is "a delicate point". González highlighted the improvement of the accident rate in the area since the installation of the section radar, ceasing to be the most conflictive area in terms of road accident in the province of Ourense. Likewise, the subdelegate highlighted the school as the rural center with the highest percentage of students - with more than 400 students and a significant number of school transport buses - 11 serve in this center.
In the presentation of the campaign, the subdelegate of the Government was accompanied by the Head of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard in Ourense, Lieutenant Javier Barja and by the head of the Provincial Directorate of the DXT, David Llorente, together with the director of the center, Eiro López.
During the development of the campaign, the General Directorate of Traffic (DXT) will coordinate the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Ourense and O Barco de Valdeorras to verify that school buses and their drivers comply with the rules established in the matter
It will also verify that the technical and safety conditions of the vehicle are those required by the regulations, as well as other issues such as driving and rest times.
Emilio González highlighted the importance of this type of campaigns since in the last one in the province, in December last year, 30 vehicles were reviewed, of which 5 were reported, while 7 complaints were made. In the more than 400 school transport routes of the province.
Administrative irregularities are those that have generated the highest number of complaints, 6 out of 10. Among the causes of these administrative infringements are not having special authorization to carry school, the maximum age of the vehicles or not having paid for unlimited civil liability insurance, as required by law.
During this campaign it will be specially controlled to drive at the allowed speed, not to use the mobile phone or other devices that may distract drivers. Alcohol and drug tests will also be done. In addition, special attention will be given to the use of safety belts on those school buses that have them installed.
This campaign has a special significance in Galicia due to the large number of school transport routes existing in the community. Galicia is the Spanish community with more school transport routes, between public and contracted at all educational levels. According to data from the Education Administrations, in each academic year school transport services are provided to more than 95,000 students from about 900 public, concerted and private educational centers throughout Galicia.
