The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the mayor, Rafael Sisto, presided today the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence of the City of Teo. With today’s table, there are already 35 constituted tables in the province of A Coruña.
The work of the coordination tables, as explained by the subdelegate, is essential to promote, within the different administrations and public services, policies and actions for the early detection of cases of male violence and to provide a quick response to victims. In addition, they also play an important role in raising awareness among citizens.
All the areas involved are represented on the coordination table, directly or indirectly, such as the educational, social and, of course, the security forces. In the case of Teo, the table has among its members representatives of the Civil Guard, the Local Police, the municipal social services, health center and schools.
The subdelegate of the Government recalled that both the impetus for its constitution and its subsequent operation are channeled through the Violence against Women Unit of the Subdelegation of the Government, always in collaboration with the City Council.
“With Teo, there are currently 35 municipalities that already work with coordination tables, but we are aware that there is still a long way to go and therefore we will continue to combine efforts,” said María Rivas.
In the province of A Coruña there are 1,970 active cases of gender violence, which means that 1,970 women have some kind of protection from the security forces and bodies.
In this first session of constitution of the table, important aspects such as the objectives to be followed and rules of operation among other issues have been addressed. The priority function of this body is to coordinate actions in possible cases of violence that are detected, as well as services and resources. In addition, actions in the field of prevention will be brought together.
The subdelegate stressed that this table constitutes another step in the fight against gender violence and recalled that Teo is one of the 21 municipalities in the province that is adhered to the Viogén system. A protection system that improves the quality of care for victims, intensifies the monitoring of each case for both victims and aggressors and improves coordination with local police.
