The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, today highlighted the good security figures of the province after studying the data of penitentiary infractions of the province corresponding to the first quarter of 2023 exposed in the Provincial Xunta of Security, which was held this morning in the Subdelegation of the Government. The subdelegate of the Government stressed, “with cautious optimism”, these data, which show that prison violations in the province declined during the first three months of the year around 13%, compared to the same period of 2022. “A significant fall, higher in the villas than in the cities, which shows that crime is reaching levels very similar to those recorded before the pandemic,” he explained.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the State Security Forces and Corps in Pontevedra, such as the colonel head of the Civil Guard Command in Pontevedra, Simón Venzal, the head of the National Police Force in Pontevedra, Juan José Díaz, the head commissioner of the Vigo-Redonda Police Station, Ramiro Gómez, and those responsible for the traffic subsector of the Civil Guard in Pontevedra.
After analyzing the data gathered by the main commanders of the State Security Forces and Corps of the province, the subdelegate wanted to highlight the investment in the trend of growth of cybercrimes that had been recorded until last year. “Since a certain slowdown in the numbers of cybercrimes had been detected in the last months of 2022, these continued to weigh the statistics, since they accounted for 1 out of every 3 crimes that occurred in the province,” explained Larriba. The data relating to the first three months show, however, that this type of crime decreased by more than 50% throughout the province, reaching in the main cities, to register a fall close to 60%. Maica Larriba highlighted the “effectiveness of the prevention and information campaigns to the citizens that are being carried out by the State Security Forces and Bodies. The message is quiet, people are becoming more aware and taking greater precautions, making e-commerce an increasingly secure channel.”
Likewise, among the crimes that generate a greater sense of insecurity among citizens, such as thefts in homes, vehicles or establishments, there is also a slight decrease, which in the environment of large cities reaches 15%, and which in villas and rural environments reaches almost 26%.
However, the subdelegate reported that there is a slight increase in crimes of violence against people in the territory of the Civil Guard. Not like that in the cities, where this type of crime came down.
By cities
Regarding the global figures recorded in the four main cities of the province during the months of January and March 2023, the subdelegate explained that these follow the provincial trend. Thus, in Pontevedra, the total number of prison offences fell by 3.72%. Among the crimes that record the greatest decline are the crimes of injury and abuse against people, which fall by 32 points, along with burglaries in homes and establishments, which fall by 66% and 11% respectively, as well as cybercrimes, which are reduced by more than half. Also, in this police station, the numbers of arrests and records for possession of drugs are maintained and a small one is observed to replace you with the thefts.
In the case of Vigo, prison infractions fell by 13.24%, highlighting the decreases recorded in crimes for injuries, which are reduced by 50%, and in burglaries in homes, which fell by 83%. Cybercrime also falls in this city by more than 60 points. Thefts, on the other hand, increased by 4%, with 129 thefts occurring in the city during the first three months of 2023, compared to 123 recorded in the same period of the previous year.
On the other hand, the greater police activity of the Viguesa police station translates into an increase of 65% of the records for possession of drugs and 16% of the records for possession of weapons or dangerous objects. In addition, the number of detainees also increased by 7 points during the first quarter of the year.
Commissioner de Marín also has positive figures, since prison offences have fallen by 26% in this city. The statistics in this locality are weighed down, however, by the slight reposition that is observed in small thefts, as well as our crimes of #maltreatment, which when going from 6 in 2022, to 7 in 2023, register an increase of 16%. The numbers of arrests are also similar to the previous year.
Vilagarcía de Arousa is the only city that breaks with the positive trend of the province, registering a rise in prison infractions of 7%, despite the fact that cybercrimes were reduced by more than 60%. The crimes that recorded the highest increases are those related to small theft and damage, as well as theft in homes and vehicles. In the first quarter of 2023, there were 20 more thefts in vehicles than in the same period of 2022. However, the number of detainees increased by 18%.
