The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, has approached Ribadiso, in Arzúa to welcome the foreign police who during this week have traveled to Santiago to patrol a section of the Camino Frances, framed in the “Safe Tourism” program of the Civil Guard. This program allows agents of other nationalities to exchange their destinations temporarily in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Germany.
The officers displaced during this Holy Week to Santiago are David Manuel Stralekstralek of the German police and Nuno Paulo Amorim Carrilho of the Portuguese gendarmerie.
The police jointly patrol a section of the road with two other Spanish agents. Among the functions assigned to these agents during their stay, is to provide assistance to the foreign tourist of their nationality or help them in translation work in case they need to carry out certain procedures or request some kind of help. These foreign police officers patrol in their national service uniform, so that they are easily recognizable by citizens coming from both countries.
As the agents themselves explained to the subdelegate of the Government, the presence of police of their own nationality generates tranquility and confidence in the pilgrims and pilgrims who make the way.
The deputy delegate of the Government has been accompanied by the Chief of Operations of the Command of the Civil Guard of A Coruña, Jorge Bodelón and by the councilor of Tourism in Arzúa, Begoña Balado.
