The government delegate in Galicia, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, today claimed in his inauguration the “policy for the people”, based on cooperation, dialogue and the defense of the common interest. In his first speech as head of the Government in Galicia, Gómez Besteiro advocated the “policy that serves to remove obstacles, correct injustices and make Galicia and Spain fairer”, as the Government of Pedro Sánchez is doing.
In his speech, the Government delegate to the Community, reviewed the priorities for this new stage, in which he committed himself to make the Delegation “a government on the street”, which prioritizes its action in close proximity to the citizens. And, in this line, he reached out to the president of the Xunta de Galicia to “make real policy among all administrations” before “an historic opportunity” for the funds of the Government Recovery Plan.
Social, economic and ecological justice
The Government of Pedro Sánchez praised “the ability to deal with crises quickly, resolutely and successfully” and “the unbeatable determination to prevail the interests of the majority over any other”. Along with these qualities, the delegate will gather the task of “promoting the principles that underpin our government, which are social justice, economic justice and ecological justice.”
In which he respects social justice, he recalled the Government’s action against the effects of the pandemic and war, which shows that “there is another way out of crises: to do it without leaving anyone behind.” “We reach all Galician families and all their members”, with the revaluation of pensions, the increase of the minimum wage, scholarships to study or the minimum vital income.
Economic justice, which goes beyond simple investment, and which is manifested in the Government’s Recovery Plan, which “reaches each of the Galician municipalities, from the largest to the smallest”, in the workload to the naval sector or in the infrastructures, which “now, yes, connect Galicia with the rest of Spain and Europe in a fast way, and contribute to the much desired territorial balance.”
And finally, ecological justice, which “prompted this Government to create an industrial conversion” and which allows Galicia to receive “millionaire investments for new energies such as green hydrogen, for clean energy in the most depopulated municipalities or for the transition of thermal power plants”.
Security challenges
As head of state security in Galicia, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro recognized the work of the Civil Guard and the National Police as guarantors of public freedoms “with courage, dedication and personal commitment.” Before the heads of the CNP and the Civil Guard in Galicia, he conveyed the commitment to continue the improvement of the staffs initiated in this legislature.
Respecting the challenges of security, he placed the emphasis on the task of protecting the victims of male violence, an intolerable situation in society. In this task, together with police action, the delegate defended the necessary “co-governance between administrations”.
