The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, valued the 3.6 billion euros invested by the Government of Pedro Sánchez in the province of A Coruña, a historical amount in the chapter of investments of the State in the province and which aims to give a boost to economic and social recovery. This amount includes the 515 million euros of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the more than 1.3 billion euros appropriated in the General State Budgets to which must be added 1,607 million in transfers to local administrations.
“Thanks to the fact that Pedro Sánchez put the needs of Galicia as a priority in his political agenda, the province of A Coruña is benefiting from new opportunities in both the economic and social spheres, providing the necessary tools to the industrial and business fabric to face very important future challenges” stressed the underdelegate who also recalled that “the Recovery Plan is reaching every corner of our province improving the quality of life of the citizens”.
In this regard, the subdelegate pointed out that those 515 million euros invested in the province under the Recovery Plan allowed more than 5,800 projects to be carried out.
“Thanks to these funds there are many business and social initiatives that are emerging in our province and that create an innovative scenario in an increasingly qualified territory, more cohesive and therefore more just and egalitarian,” said the deputy delegate.
These initiatives are embodied in actions such as the approximately 31.5 million euros that will bring high-speed internet to more than 52,000 homes in the province thanks to the UNICO-Broadband Program; the 25 million from the Digital Kit, which promotes the digitization of more than 9,000 companies and self-employed; the 10.8 million for unique clean energy projects with the DUS 5000 program; the 13.5 million for the rehabilitation of the Hostal de los Reis Católica; the 11.5 million for the Just Transition funds; the 17 million from the INVEAT plan for the modernization and acquisition of high-technology sanitary equipment, among others.
Infrastructure
In which it reaches infrastructures, María Rivas emerged the dredging of the Ría del Burgo with 35.5 million investment “a historical debt with the city of A Coruña and its metropolitan area that the Government of Pedro Sánchez was the one to unblock”. It also recalled the 171 million railway access to the external port of A Coruña and the 92.5 million euros to that of Ferrol. It highlighted the 110 million euros to the intermodal stations of A Coruña and Santiago; the 31 million for the remodeling of Alfonso Molina; the 16 million euros to the Ferrol-Ribadeo metric width route, with substantial improvements in the capacity of the line and in the regularity of the circulation; the 22.5 million euros in the link of the Santiago Orbital that will connect the AP-9 with the La-54 creating a direct access from motorway to the airport; the 20.3 million to the green hydrogen projects of As Pontes and Meirama or the 56 million of the workshop Nava blocks.
María Rivas also pointed out the important encouragement that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is giving to the humanization projects of different routes as they pass through urban sections such as the Milladoiro Crossing (7.88 million euros), in Ames or the Avenida de las Pías (10.6 million euros) in Ferrol. Regarding these interventions, the subdelegate stressed “the will of the Government to move towards more inclusive and sustainable mobility giving priority to people.”
“The Recovery Plan and the investments of the Government of Pedro Sánchez are unblocking projects that in some cases have been waiting for decades, now there are many towns and cities that finally see historical debts liquidated thanks to the commitment of this Government” stressed María Rivas who gave as an example the dredging of the Ría del Burgo or the remodeling of Alfonso Molina.
In this regard, the Government’s deputy delegate encouraged the self-employed and companies not to miss the “unique opportunity” represented by the Recovery Plan. This respect, he cited as an example the region of Ferrol, where the contract for the construction of the F-110 frigates in Navantia and the public company’s commitment to offshore wind are causing a resurgence of industrial activity in the region, which will be reinforced with the fair transition projects that will be carried out in the environment of the old coal-fired power plants of As Pontes and Meirama.
The subdelegate also did not forget the investment effort that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is developing in the conservation and maintenance of the road network in the province with more than 75 million euros since 2018. Maria Rivas insisted on the “clear and firm commitment of the Government to recover the lost time in infrastructure of the province by making decision and making historical investments”
María Rivas highlighted another important milestone for Coruña as the designation of the city as a thirst for the AESIA, Spanish Agency for Supervision of Artificial Intelligence that “will undoubtedly promote the modernization of our economy”.
Social spending
Social spending was one of the chapters on which María Rivas emphasized since it represents one in every six euros of the budgets. The subdelegate stressed the sensitivity of the Government with budgets that “protect the most vulnerable groups, such as pensioners, new people or working middle class, preventing anyone from being left behind.”
In this regard, he recalled the 30,943 people in the province of A Coruña who benefited from the minimum vital income, “one of the most important policies of inclusion and income redistribution of the Government of Pedro Sánchez in its commitment not to leave the most vulnerable people unprotected.” It also highlighted the 33,491 beneficiaries of the electric social bond and the 5,362 of the cultural bond in 2022.
In addition, the subdelegate claimed the investment effort of the Government that in the province allocated 7.75 million euros to the construction of 58 homes for social rent and 26.4 million euros to study grants that were able to enjoy 13,948 scholarships from the province.
“These are just some of the data that show the result of the effort and commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the citizens, a Government that from the first moment prioritized the people and that put all its efforts in alleviating the effects of a pandemic so that no one would be left on the road,” said María Rivas. “A government that helps all of us to be more resilient and to walk forward with a firm and determined step,” concluded María Rivas.
