Ourense, March 27, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, has presented the data of the UNICO-Broadband Plan in the concellos of Ourense and its region that “has allowed Concellos such as Pereiro de Aguiar or Coles to have passed in the last two years of not having broadband implementation to reach more than half of its inhabitants or that in the case of Ourense, it has reached practically 100% of its digitization”.
Gonzalez pointed out that this investment will bring broadband internet to “more than 7,000 neighbors in the region of Ourense improving connectivity in 1,290 population centers throughout the region, breaking the digital divide that exists today.” This is what he said this morning in a meeting held in the auditorium of the Provincial Historical Archive of Ourense.
He has traveled there together with the Chief of Telecommunications Inspection of the province, Enrique Sanmartín, who has informed the mayors and institutional representatives of the twelve municipalities of the region -Ourense, Barbadás, Amoeiro, Vilamarín, Esgos, Taboadela, San Cibrao das Viñas, Nogueira de Ramuín, Pereiro de Aguiar, Coles, A Peroxa and Toén- of the state of compliance of the plan by placing the concellos of the region as an area of great connectivity and putting in value the challenge of the Government. In addition, during the event, it has been used so that the new operator in charge of the implementation of the service in the province, representatives of the telephone company Avatel Telecom, who pick up the Telefónica witness, propose their proposal to the mayors and mayors so that they can resolve in a more agile way the procedures necessary for the extension of the line.
Thus, Jose Manuel González, direct of extension in the northern area, of Avatel Telecom, has valued as a differentiating company the involvement of Avatel as an operator that looks towards the rural and that values the implementation of the Single Plan of the Government as a common objective of both entities. Likewise, it has also highlighted that the company is conducting a round of contacts with presentations of deployment plans in each municipality to be able to inform mayors and mayors of the situation of the program.
In Ourense the plan has an investment of 18,391,322 euros for 45,635 units in Ourense whose works are being carried out by the company Adamo Telecom.
With this new line of aid, financed with the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, a public-private investment of 388.2 million euros will be mobilized, which is in addition to the 1.120 million mobilized since 2018. These investments have enabled us to bring ultra-fast broadband connections to more than four million homes and businesses by 2021.
In the case of Galicia, as in most of the state territory, the households and companies benefited are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their allocation in the next three years.
UNICO Plan Rural Demand
The Subdelegate of the Government has also highlighted the recent call for the Single Rural Demand Plan that will improve coverage in remote areas at an affordable price, “affecting democratization and breaking the digital divide in which the Government works.” This will be possible thanks to satellite technology awarded to Hispasat by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and which will allow high-speed access in remote territories where fixed technology cannot be available at a price that cannot be higher than € 35 per month for the end users of the service. Emilio González pointed out that this is “very good news for a province like Ourense”
