The Government of Spain is promoting digitalization in seven municipalities of demographic challenge of Galicia through the Rural TIC program promoted by the public company Ineco, dependent on the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez; the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, and the mayor of Trabada, Mayra García, attended this morning one of the digitization workshops carried out by volunteer workers of this consultancy and public engineering in the municipalities registered in this initiative. Also attending this meeting was the mayor of Parada de Sil, Aquilino Domínguez, who is also benefiting from this program.
The subdelegate of the Government pointed out that this program is another example of the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez for territorial cohesion and for the digitalization of the rural world. It joins other initiatives that are already under way and that aim to guarantee the same opportunities and services in small municipalities.
Isabel Rodríguez explained that this commitment includes the provision of Internet access technologies, through the UNICO-Broadband program of fiber optic extension, and the most recent UNICO-Rural Demand, of satellite access in remote areas.
To this technological impulse is added the effort to train the population of these areas in the use of digital tools, as Ineco does with Rural TIC. In this area, the subdelegate also highlighted the program “The Administration Near You”. Through this program, staff of the Government Subdelegation travels the municipalities of Lugo training their citizens in the digital services of the State Administration.
During the meeting, the president of Ineco stressed that, thanks to this Rural ICT, “Galicia has the opportunity to experience an innovative initiative that also aims to connect people and places, through a corporate program that accounts for our relevant positioning in digital transformation and also our commitment to the decentralized territorial location of our teams.” And he stressed that this new facet joins the extensive experience of Ineco in the development of the railway, port and road infrastructures promoted by the Ministry of Transport in the community.
Experience at Trabada
For her part, the mayor of Trabada thanked the digital nomads of Ineco, Eduardo Correa and Esther Ros, for the dedication and professionalism they demonstrated in the workshops that have been taught during their stay in the municipality. In these workshops, more than 15 neighbors have had the opportunity to learn about the possibilities that the digital world offers to the rural environment, such as the use of apps from different administrations, the management of digital banking or the use of instant messaging and email among older people. In parallel, they have given workshops on cybersecurity and digital fingerprinting to minors. These activities have been taught at the Casa de la Cultura de Trabada.
Digitalization also has an economic part, aimed at training companies in these municipalities in new technologies. In the case of Trabada, the volunteer staff of Ineco has supported the parapharmacy product distribution project in this town, which has allowed its entrepreneurs to have the brand image, tools and knowledge necessary to implement it.
The other concellos already involved in the program – Cerdido (A Coruña), Porto do Son (A Coruña), A Pobra de Trives (Ourense) and Parada de Sil (Ourense) –, along with the two that will be incorporated in the coming weeks – Carballeda de Avia (Ourense) and A Gudiña (Ourense) –, position Galicia as one of the three Autonomous Communities with more municipalities registered in this initiative, along with Andalusia and Castilla y León. A total of 13 digital nomads from Ineco combine their working day through teleworking training while supporting the inhabitants of these small municipalities in the use and opportunities provided by new technologies.
An innovative program with double benefit
Ineco deploys with this program more than 100 digital nomads to 55 municipalities in 15 Spanish provinces to, through the formula of teleworking, settle temporarily in the territory and dedicate part of their working day to the social and economic digitalization of the municipality in which they are located.
To date, more than 24 municipalities have had the presence, for two weeks, of Ineco employees participating in this program, in which professional profiles such as engineers, ICT specialists or computer scientists develop training workshops aimed at the population and the business fabric of the area; in addition to launching various initiatives to increase the visibility of these municipalities and their cultural and tourist wealth.
Ineco RuralTIC is also an opportunity to revitalize the rural environment since it offers digital nomads the experience of knowing and discovering the immense cultural and natural heritage that small municipalities treasure. Thus, the first 44 digital nomads of Ineco that have traveled with this program since November have been able to check it out different municipalities of Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia and Castilla y León.
