The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, traveled this morning to Cerdido to meet with its mayor Benigno Galego and supervise the projects financed by the Government in the municipality.
Among these projects is the rehabilitation of the Casa de la Cultura, which will have an aid of 461,243 euros from the funds of the Just Transition Institute and which will finance 100% of the works.
In addition, Cerdido also has a grant of 484.80 funds from the IDAE (Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving) that covers 80% of the total investment. With these funds, the change will be carried out in the 1,064 luminaires of the three parishes of the city council, the repair of change of commands and remote management lines. Currently, 70% of the change of luminaires has already been executed .
This change entails considerable savings not only in consumption but also in maintenance, as well as an improvement in lighting.
House of Culture
As for the Casa de la Cultura, the rehabilitation project includes a redistribution of the building to make it a senior center, a coworking center dedicated to the development and entrepreneurship of companies and a general training classroom linked to training programs. These programs will focus on improving job opportunities focused especially on women and on developing coworking related activities. In addition, the outdoor spaces will also be humanized.
As the mayor explained to the subdelegate, in the municipality the demand for people who request a space in which to telework, especially after the pandemic, has increased, so the creation of the coworking space will be of great help to neighbors and neighbors.
The Casa de la Cultura de Cerdido was built in 1992 and, as stated in the project, has a non-functional layout with underused spaces and accessibility problems. The future renovation aims to correct poor thermal comfort due to poor insulation and waterproofing of the enclosure as well as deteriorated installations with inefficient equipment.
For the building’s constructive and energy efficiency improvement, the roof and enclosures are waterproofed and thermally insulated; the provision of new carpentry facilities with better thermal performance; a system of air conditioning and hot water by means of heat pumps; a photovoltaic installation for self-consumption; new installations of electricity, lighting, plumbing, sanitation, fire protection and telecommunications; and the implementation of a computerized management system of the day center and coworking.
The Government’s subdelegate stressed the importance of many of these projects being carried out in demographically challenging municipalities such as Cerdido. One of the objectives of these funds is to attract population to these municipalities that in recent years have suffered a decrease in the number of inhabitants.
The subdelegate took advantage of her visit to Cerdido to remember the new call that the Government will open for the 19 municipalities of the regions of As Pontes and Meirama that are within the Fair Transition Agreement and that will distribute 25 million euros for initiatives in municipal facilities This new opportunity is added to the allocation of 11.5 million euros for social, environmental and cultural projects in 12 municipalities of the province
In addition to Cerdido, the funds of the Just Transition agreement will reach 11 other municipalities in the province affected by the closures of the As Pontes and Meirama power plants. Cabanas, Ferrol, Moeche, Mañón, As Somozas, San Sadurniño, Ortigueira, As Somozas, Monfero, Cerceda, Ordes and Tordoia are other municipalities that benefit from this aid.

Support to the xeopark
During her visit to the city council, the subdelegate showed the support of the Government for the candidacy of Cabo Ortegal to achieve the recognition of Unesco as a Xeoparque and highlighted “the great work and effort that all the municipalities integrated within the Asoation for the Management of the Xeoparque have made to achieve this more than deserved distinction”
Cerdido currently benefits from the Xeoparque Cabo Ortegal Tourism Sustainability Plan, developed between 2022 and 2024 by the seven municipalities that make up this geodestination (Amor, Cedeira, Cerdido, Moeche, Ortigueira, San Sadurniño and Valdoviño) with a funding of 1.5 million euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, with funds from the Recovery Plan.
High Speed Internet
During her visit to the municipality, María Rivas took the opportunity to remember that thanks to the Government Recovery Plan 735 homes in Cerdido will have high-speed internet access thanks to the UN-Broadband program of the Government Recovery Plan. Between the two calls made by the Government, 144 projects will be carried out in Cerdido.
