Pontevedra, March 22, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, participated this morning in the CEIP of Marcón in one of the training actions on cybersecurity that was given by the National Police Force within the framework of the Master Plan for Coexistence in Educational Centers. In the course of the event with the students of sixth grade, the Government’s deputy delegate highlighted the great educational work carried out by the National Police through the Delegation of Citizen Participation to train the educational community in the face of the risks that social networks and new ICT can entail. “It is very important to provide training in this field from early stages so that students have the tools and knowledge necessary to use network resources responsibly and to curb cybercrime,” he said.
Today’s talk focused specifically on cyberbullying and sexting, two behaviors and actions in the network that are increasingly common among children and adolescents due to the boom in the use of new technologies. The agents of the National Police explained to the students what these practices consist of, such as detecting and preventing cyberbullyn, as well as the risks involved in activities such as sexting. Once the session was finished, the students carried out a small control in which they tested their knowledge of the subject. Together with the boys and girls, they also carried out the examination to subdelegate and the Chief Commissioner of Pontevedra, Juan José Díaz, with the result that all of them present were approved.
Maica Larriba appreciated the involvement of the National Police in this work as well as that of the school’s cloister for developing “a course that guarantees knowing how to surf safely on the Internet, avoiding collaborating in cyberbullying to their own friends and colleagues.” At the same time, he congratulated all the boys and girls and encouraged them to “put into practice all the learning and to be ambassadors, especially among the elderly, of the good use of the internet and social networks,” he said.
During the first quarter of the 2022-2023 academic year, 12,898 members of the educational community (students, teachers, parents) of the province participated in the training and preventive activities led by the Civil Guard and the National Police, which represents an increase of 56.5% with respect to the last academic year.
