The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, highlighted this morning in Ames the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the transformation of the municipalities of Galicia, endorsed in an investment of € 7.88M from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) to humanize the Milladoiro Crossing. The delegate presented in the field this project that aims to provide the urban section of the N-550 road between the kilometer points 67+075 and 68+600 with the proper functionalities of an urban road. The mayor of Ames, Blas García, also participated in the event.
“The time has come for Milladoiro’s transformation; we protect people and move towards more inclusive and sustainable mobility,” said José Miñones, and stressed that it is the Government of Pedro Sánchez that is launching this work that is so demanded by the neighborhood and that will benefit the municipalities of Ames, Teo and Santiago. He stressed that the action will create a more livable road that will give more space to pedestrians and bicycles, and allow the neighborhood to enjoy new leisure areas. “In a short time we will see how this road becomes a more friendly and safer urban road,” he said.
The delegate announced that the Ministry of Transport plans to approve the project in this first half of the year, in order to tender the works in the second. “With this work we make city in Ames. We break down barriers and gain space for people,” said José Miñones, and thanked the mayor for his cooperation. “The municipalities are protagonists of the modernization led by this government, with a direct impact on people’s daily lives,” he said.
Works include:
- Reorganization and optimization of public space, delimiting use and functions of each of the zones
- Paving of sidewalks, parking lots, traffic lanes and cycle paths
- Creation of an accessible pedestrian itinerary
- Provision of areas for pedestrians
- Loading, unloading and reserved parking
- Replacement of affected services
- Renewal of firmness and adaptation of existing signage.
MITMA is developing a Crossings Humanization Strategy with which it seeks to generate, in relation to the State Road Network, a more accessible, inclusive and sustainable urban environment, which aims to promote the decarbonization of urban mobility and the improvement of air quality through the empowerment of walking routes.
The integration measures promote the mobility of pedestrians, cyclists and other new forms of mobility, and tend to reduce the spaces dedicated to cars and reduce their speed, with the aim of both reducing emissions into the atmosphere and noise pollution.
