The delegate of the Government in Galicia, José Miñones, visited this morning the City of Affection, where he met with the mayor, José Miguel Alonso Pumar, to supervise the investments of the Government in the territory and transfer the opportunities of the new calls for the Recovery Plan for the municipality and its neighbors. The delegate valued the “enormous impact” that the Government’s Recovery Plan is having for the green and digital transformation of the region of Ortegal and, specifically, in the municipality of Amor, with an investment of more than two million euros, which reverses in the improvement of public services and the green and digital transition, while taking advantage of the great potential of this territory for sustainable tourism.
José Miñones pointed out that the actions being carried out in the Coruñés municipality of Amor certify the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the municipalism and with the improvement of public services and the quality of life of the population of the less populated municipalities. “The Government is promoting the transformation of the region of Ortegal with the Recovery Plan and we are doing so with the municipalities, which are protagonists of this progress towards a more sustainable, greener, more digital and cohesive country,” he said.
“We protect the rights of Amor’s neighbors and move forward to expand public services and quality of life. Because living in Ortegal is a privilege.”
Xeoparque Cabo Ortegal Tourism Sustainability Plan
The delegate transferred the support of the Government of Spain for Cabo Ortegal’s candidacy to the mayor of Amor to achieve the recognition of Unesco as a Xeoparque. In this regard, he highlighted the intense work carried out in recent years by the mayor of Amor, who in 2022 held the presidency of the Association for the Management of the Xeoparque, and the other six member municipalities, together with the Diputación de A Coruña; and considered that it has all the necessary characteristics to achieve international recognition.
Precisely, Amor currently benefits from the Xeoparque Cabo Ortegal Tourism Sustainability Plan, developed between 2022 and 2024 by the seven municipalities that make up this geodestination (Amor, Cedeira, Cerdido, Moeche, Ortigueira, San Sadurniño and Valdoviño) with a funding of 1.5 million euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, with funds from the Recovery Plan.
“We are laying the foundations for the tourism of the future, a greener, more sustainable tourism and open to the world through digital technologies. A tourism that will place Ortegal as a reference destination within this new model,” said José Miñones.
Energy saving
In addition to the support for tourism, the Government develops other actions in this town hall. In the field of energy transition, José Miñones pointed out that the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge already financed with almost 650,000 euros the renovation of all public lighting in the municipality.
This project mobilized in total more than 800,000 euros, of which the City Council contributed 160,000 euros, and allowed to replace more than 1,500 luminaires with LED technology. “The environmental impact of this action is clear and I would also like to highlight the savings for municipal coffers: consumption was almost halved,” he said.
High Speed Internet Connection
Along with this support, the Government also promotes the digital transition of Amor, in this case through the Government Recovery Plan, which is having an enormous impact on the lives of the inhabitants of Amor and the region of Ortegal. In particular, the delegate announced that the Government will bring the high-speed internet connection to more than 1,300 homes and companies in this city thanks to the UNI-Broadband Plan. In the whole of the region, more than 5,500 homes and premises are the winners of this connectivity.
