The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, has called for the participation of families through the associations of mothers and fathers in the Master Plan of Coexistence in schools. He has done so during the course of some training days for the Anpas that are held today in the Pazo de Mariñán.
The subdelegate said that in order to optimize the Master Plan as much as possible, the collaboration and involvement of families is “key” as a fundamental part of the school community.
“Our daughters and sons live with a reality that is not without risks and what we want is to provide the educational community with tools to deal with them. Families are a fundamental pillar and our goal is that we go together, hand in hand in this difficult task” said María Rivas during her speech.
With 15 years of existence, the Master Plan for Coexistence is already consolidated both in the province and in the rest of Galicia. “This means that in the educational centers of the province and Galicia, safety education is one more aspect of the training of a girl and a boy, of a father or guardian or of a mother or guardian, of a teacher or of a teacher.”
María Rivas has stressed the importance of the Master Plan for Coexistence as a fundamental tool “to educate in equality, tolerance and respect for diversity”
So far this year, one in two educational centers in Galicia formalized applications for preventive training by the National Police and Civil Guard.
This coexistence plan has been launched by the Ministry of the Interior to help prevent security and coexistence problems that may affect the youngest population: bullying; drugs and alcohol; violent gangs, racism and intolerance; violence against women and discrimination or the Internet and social networks. The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Equality are collaborating in the development of this plan.
The plan offers different actions to the educational community: meetings with police experts, talks with teachers and AMPAS, talks with students about security problems and permanent access to a police expert to consult any problem related to security or coexistence and improved monitoring of the school environment.
This plan is coordinated by the Government Delegation in Galicia through the Government’s subdelegations. It is a plan that has the participation and work of all the actors involved, from the educational community, to the personnel of the Civil Guard and National Police, municipalities, educational inspection and personnel of the High Inspection Area of the Government Delegation and the subdelegations.
During the past year, agents specialized in training of the Civil Guard and National Police have visited 294 centers in A Coruña in which 1,774 activities were carried out: 680 have been related to new technologies, 486 to bullying, 211 to gender-based violence and 141 to drugs and alcohol.
In total, 37,091 people participated in these activities during the last academic year in our province, of which 35,046 were students, 1,500 teachers and 545 parents.
The Government’s deputy delegate also explained that when it comes to the subject of the activities, the most demanded are school bullying, the safe use of new technologies or gender violence. “If this plan also serves us, it is to probe what are the concerns of such an important group as education in reference to citizen security,” explained the deputy delegate.
During her speech, the subdelegate was accompanied by Alberto Arias, inspector of the National Police, and Sergio Vázquez, of the Civil Guard. María Rivas has taken the opportunity to thank “the very important role played by the security forces and bodies in matters of prevention, a work that is not seen but is essential”.
