The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, today conveyed to the mayor of Fisterra the support of the government to promote the project designed by the City Council to rehabilitate the Fisterra Lighthouse and turn it into a center of interpretation and attention to visitors of the Costa da Morte.
José Miñones went to the City of Fisterra, where he held a meeting with the mayor, José Marcote, to evaluate this project and study its fit in the lines of support for sustainable tourism of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. At this meeting, they announced that ministerial and local officials had already been in contact to finalize this collaboration and that the project had already been transferred to the minister responsible for this department, Reyes Maroto.
José Miñones showed his confidence in this project, which recovers an example of the lighthouse architecture of Galicia and which, in addition, transcends the Fisterra itself, as it will serve as a tourist reference of the entire Costa da Morte.
After the meeting, both went to the Lighthouse, where the mayor detailed to the delegate the different actions that are to be carried out both in the main building and in the annex. Among them is the creation of a museum, with several rooms, and a regional tourism office.
Government investments
The delegate reiterated to the mayor the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the municipalities and local administration, especially those in the category of “demographic challenge”: “We work in collaboration with local governments to promote the green and digital transition of these municipalities and improve the provision of local public services.”
José Miñones reviewed with the mayor projects in which the Government and the City of Fisterra collaborate, such as the extension of broadband Internet access. This commitment to digitization comes to Fisterra through the UN-Broadband Program managed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation within the Government Recovery Plan. The delegate reported that this program will make it possible in Fisterra for 1,066 families and companies to have an ultra-fast internet connection before the end of next year.
Along with the digital transition, the Government also supports the ecological transition of the City of Fisterra. In this area, the delegate pointed out that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition financed with 54,500 euros the start-up of a photovoltaic installation in the treatment station of this town.
In culture and education, the delegate highlighted the existence in Fisterra of a Classroom Mentor, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Professional Training. This free and accessible online training service for adults is provided in the CemiT Classroom in Fisterra. The Government subsidized its equipment and operation with 4,000 euros.
In Fisterra, the “Rural Postmen” program is also under way, so Post staff make it possible for people from rural and remote areas to pay receipts and manage simple shipments and procedures from home.
Local government work
José Miñones stressed that these investments of the Government are possible by the involvement and dynamism of the local government of Fisterra to take advantage of the different lines offered by the ministries.
The delegate gave as an example of this work the request presented by the City Council to benefit from the PERTE of Digitization of the Water Cycle, which is managed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition. In this case, Fisterra joined in the candidacy to five other municipalities in Galicia to present an ambitious proposal to significantly improve municipal water management.
