The Government Delegation in Galicia hosted this morning the institutional act on the occasion of International Women’s Day, chaired by the subdelegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, together with the delegate in Galicia, José Miñones. They both read the institutional declaration together with eleven other people representing different public and social institutions. María Rivas stressed that this has been a legislature of advances, with more than a thousand rules approved by this Government, of which 25%, one in four, has had a direct positive impact for women.
María Rivas conveyed the commitment and action of the Government to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, promote their empowerment and achieve their full participation in society. The subdelegate highlighted the public policies activated in the last three years to resolve the material, symbolic and value inequalities faced by women. Among the social and economic advances, it noted the increase in the minimum wage, the recognition of the labor rights of domestic workers, labor reform and effective equality plans. Also the recently approved Preliminary Draft Organic Law on Equal Representation of Women and Men in Decision-Making Bodies, “a regulation to ensure equal opportunities in employment, leadership and decision-making at all levels”.
The deputy delegate then gave way to the reading of the Institutional Declaration for International Women’s Day approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers. It was also attended by the Director General of Red.es, Alberto Martínez Lacambra; the Councillor for Equality of the Council of A Coruña, Yoya Neira; the Delegate of the Tax Agency in Galicia, Imelda Capote; the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Alberto de la Fuente; the Head of the Area of External Health, Cristina Oliveira; the Head of the Area of Agriculture, Ana Tubío; the Deputy General Federation of the Coruña, María Vázquez.
