The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, has stressed that the government of Pedro Sánchez has placed Galicia in the center of Spain and Europe with the Atlantic Corridor from its geographical position in the Northwest. José Miñones has shown that, in the Atlantic Corridor “this Government is once again complying with Galicia with decisions, with interlocution and with funds”.
The delegate recalled that “it was the Government of Pedro Sánchez that incorporated Galicia in the development of this Corridor in 2019”, and that it had effect in 2021, rectifying the decision to exclude the Galician Community that the previous Government took in 2013. Secondly, he highlighted the appointment of the commissioner to promote the development of the infrastructure and to serve as a necessary interlocutor for the other agencies and companies involved. Also this appointment now completes the lack that had been maintained since 2018, when the former Executive created this figure, but only for the Mediterranean Corridor.
Thirdly, the delegate has exemplified the commitment to the Atlantic Corridor in the appropriation of the funds necessary for its materialization: “we talk about 4.1 billion euros committed this year, through the General State Budgets and funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan”.
Commissioner's visit
José Miñones met this morning with the Government Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, José Antonio Sebastián, on his first visit to Galicia. After pointing out that the Government Delegation in Galicia will be one of its usual workplaces, the commissioner stressed that it will travel continuously to the community while prioritizing permanent contact with the Xunta and with the business fabric of Galicia.
“This Government has reached cruising speed in this Corridor and my task is not to reduce it”, he insisted, reviewing the main milestones in the management of this infrastructure and the forecasts of its completion. Thus, it has indicated that the pending actions add up to 16 billion euros, of which 3.9 billion correspond to renovations of existing lines and another 12.1 billion, to new infrastructures.
José Miñones has highlighted this investment, which is another example of how the Government continues to bet on Galicia and on rail transport in Galicia. Thus, he recalled that, in the year 2022, Galicia was the second Spanish community with the largest investments in railway work tendered and awarded by the ADIF, up to 731 million euros.
Meetings with companies
During the day, the government delegate and the commissioner will meet with important companies of Galicia to advance projects on the Corridor, which is constituted as multimodal infrastructure at the service of the transport of people and goods with a trans-European dimension.
These meetings are part of the task assumed by the Office of the Commissioner as a recipient of proposals for the improvement and revitalization of the services, mainly business services, that are developed in all the communities through which it passes.
