The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, encouraged Galician tourism companies to request, before March 31 , the aid for the improvement of the energy efficiency of their facilities. The total budget for these actions is 7.8 million euros from the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) of the Government that, in this case, manages the Xunta de Galicia through Turgalicia.
“The Recovery Plan arrives in Galicia and the companies of the tourism sector arrive,” said the government delegate. In fact, there are already more than 11,000 Galician companies benefiting from these funds, either through grants and subsidies, by concurrence or through financing. In total, about 2.4 billion euros of which more than half (1.219 billion, 51%) are managed directly by the Xunta de Galicia.
In this line, José Miñones urged to take advantage of the unique opportunity that the Recovery Plan represents for the Galician business fabric, while demanding co-governance and public-private collaboration to take advantage of the latest plan to transform Galicia and modernize tourist facilities with criteria of efficiency and sustainability.
In the new aid line, the subsidies can reach up to 150,000 euros per beneficiary and are aimed at carrying out energy efficiency actions that boost the circular economy in complete buildings whose use is tourist accommodation. Thus, hotels, pensions, rural tourism establishments, tourist hostels and tourist apartments may be beneficiaries of them.
For the government delegate, this aid is another sign of the government’s commitment to more responsible and sustainable tourism. “We are designing the tourism of the future in Galicia, to make our destination sustainable, competitive and of first level quality,” said José Miñones.
Among the actions to be subsidized are the improvement of the energy efficiency of the thermal envelope of the property, the efficiency and use of renewable energies in thermal heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and sanitary hot water installations, as well as the energy improvement of lighting installations. The conditions for obtaining them are that these actions imply a reduction in the consumption of non-renewable primary energy of 30% with respect to the starting situation, as well as the improvement of the total energy qualification of the building (criterion that will not be applicable when the building accredits to have an energy qualification La).
The government delegate recalled that, within the framework of the Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to improve the sustainability of tourism, one of the driving sectors of the Spanish economy, is one of the main axes. This respect, cited programs such as the Tourist Sustainability Plans in Destination, with a global investment of 85.7 million euros in Galicia, or the improvements in the Galician network of Paradores, with another 35 million euros. All of them, José Miñones added, “represent a unique opportunity to transform the tourism of our community and project it towards the future, with a green, sustainable, digital and competitive model”.
