Entrimo, March 1, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, has presented the data of the UNICO-Broadband Plan in the region of A Baixa Limia that “has allowed Concellos such as Entrimo or Lobios to have passed in the last two years from not having broadband implementation to reach more than half of its inhabitants.”
Gonzalez pointed out that this investment will bring broadband internet to “almost 4,000 neighbors in the region of A Baixa Limia, improving connectivity in 930 population centers throughout the region, breaking the digital divide that exists today.” This is what he said this morning at a meeting held at the Council of Entrimo.
He has traveled there together with the Chief of Telecommunications Inspection of the province, Enrique Sanmartín, who has informed the mayors and institutional representatives of the five municipalities of the region -Entrimo, Lobios, Lobeira, Muiños and Bande- of the state of compliance of the plan placing the concellos of the region as an area of great connectivity and valuing this commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to meet the objectives of the demographic challenge in an area with a particular orography as it is framed within the Serra do Xurés Natural Park.
In Ourense the plan has an investment of 18,391,322 euros for 45,635 units in Ourense whose works are being carried out by the company Adamo Telecom.
With this new line of aid, financed with the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, a public-private investment of 388.2 million euros will be mobilized, which is in addition to the 1.120 million mobilized since 2018. These investments have enabled us to bring ultra-fast broadband connections to more than four million homes and businesses by 2021.
In the case of Galicia, as in most of the state territory, the households and companies benefited are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their allocation in the next three years.
UNICO Plan Rural Demand
The Subdelegate of the Government has also highlighted the recent call for the Single Rural Demand Plan that will improve coverage in remote areas at an affordable price, “affecting democratization and breaking the digital divide in which the Government works.” This will be possible thanks to satellite technology awarded to Hispasat by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and which will allow high-speed access in remote territories where fixed technology cannot be available at a price that cannot be higher than € 35 per month for the end users of the service. Emilio González pointed out that this is “very good news for a province like Ourense”
