The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today highlighted the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with digital transformation, guaranteeing 100% coverage of high-speed internet access in the province of Lugo. Isabel Rodríguez traveled this morning to Mariña where she visited the municipalities of O Valadouro and Alfoz, present in the two calls for proposals of the UNICO-Broadband Program, developed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation with 22.5 million of the Recovery Plan for the province of Lugo, bringing broadband connection with ultra-fast speed to 1,800 families and companies of the two municipalities of Mariña.
In both localities, the deputy delegate met with her mayors, Edmundo Maseda and Jorge Valle, to inform them, in addition, about the available programs of the Government in the field of housing, ecological transition and public administration, and to know, at the same time, their demands and concerns.
“With the UNICO-Broadband Program we are tackling the digital divide that affects, above all, the rural environment, and thus we are fighting against the depopulation of municipalities, facilitating access to broadband internet to neighbors and neighbors who live in municipalities such as O Valadouro and Alfoz,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
In the case of the province of Lugo, like Galicia, the households and companies benefiting from this initiative are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their endowment for the next three years.
“With this plan we ensure that O Valadouro and Alfoz have connectivity of more than 300 megas in practically the entire territory, in 500 areas that today do not have this type of coverage, fundamental in the current world,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
Specifically, in the City of O Valadouro, the UNICO Program will digitize 260 areas where there is currently no such connection and where 1,022 families and companies are located. In the case of Alfoz, 240 connection projects will be executed to bring this service to 767 homes and companies of this Town Hall.
“To guarantee the survival of the smallest municipalities and fight against depopulation from the administrations we have to commit to digital connectivity and high-speed internet access throughout the territory” stressed the subdelegate. In this line, he recalled that between the two calls for this Plan, the Government of Pedro Sánchez will bring high-speed connection technology to more than 32,700 homes and companies in the province.
Rural Demand Plan
Isabel Rodríguez informed the two councilors that the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has just approved the UNICO Rural Demand, the program with which the Government guarantees broadband extension via satellite in all rural areas. For this, it provisionally awarded the company Hispasat to deploy through satellite technology the infrastructures necessary to provide ultra-fast connectivity to areas throughout Spain in which there is no coverage with fixed technology at a minimum of 50 Mbps and will provide an affordable service of at least 100 Mbps until December 31, 2027, the one price made 35 euros monthly for the end user.
This action is part of the Single Plan, funded by the Recovery Plan, and has a budget both for the configuration of the service and to cover the cost of the end user’s discharge.
